"My Darling Percy" (Plutonic Sonnets 120)

“My Darling Percy,” so his mother wrote

To Percival, her eldest, favorite son;

His father was accordingly remote,

A proper Brahmin sire, not much for fun.

At Harvard, Percy turned out to excel

In the humanities, and science too;

Then in the family business did quite well:

It seems there wasn’t much he couldn’t do.

But he was champing at the Brahmin bit;

He and his clever friends were wont to scoff

At its restraints. So rather than submit

To Brahmin bridal plans, he broke things off;

And strongly set on being his own man,

Set off on a long journey to Japan.

How do you do it?

Do you think and dream in 10 syllables? It just rolls off like you spent no time on it. Your word choice, particularly the end rhymes are just right. And, it's a universal story retold again and again down through the centuries. Enjoyed this immensely. Thanks, Lisa

Iambic Pentameter

It's like a beat that gets into your head, And more and more you tend to notice it In words around you. And after awhile Your own words fall into it rather well, Though not without some effort; and it seems To me I'm yet to do it in my dreams! Thanks much indeed, Lisa!

this one doesn't work by itself

you know I admire your work but this needs context and I am NOT going to buy your book to get it. Cheers, Jess, Reprehensibly irrepressible

Not Buying It

As to that: Even if you don't, there are plenty more who will! [hilarious laughter] :-,? (User, recomposed, puffs resignedly on a bent briar.)
