Sing it Again

Two little sets of big bright eyes

Smiling up at me.

“Sing it again, sing it again,

sing it again mummy.”

The chores got done in record time.

Dishes after supper

vanished faster than the grime

from your faces in the bathtub.

Floors got swept, tables wiped,

we sang away work blues,

‘cos you two had me,

and I had you two too.

Two little sets of big bright eyes

 smiling up at me.

“Sing it again, sing it again,

 sing it again mummy.”

When the electric power failed

many times through many storms,

we lit a dozen candles

and sang with guitar chords.

We marvelled at the lightning.

We sang away our fear.

Because we had each other

and there’s power in the number three.

Two little sets of big bright eyes

 smiling up at me.

“Sing it again, sing it again,

 sing it again mummy.”

Whilst we were travelling distances

in the confines of the car,

we sang it loud and heartily.

Didn’t matter where we were.

Out of key or out of time, it mattered hardly.

‘Cos I had you two too,

and of course you two had me.

Two little sets of big bright eyes

Smiling up at me.

“Sing it again, sing it again,

sing it again mummy

“Some-one to do for,

to muddle through for.

I have you two.

Someone to try for,

to do or die for,

I have you two.

Could be, we three

get along so famously ‘cos

you two have me,

and I have you two too.

Two little sets of big bright eyes

 smiling up at me.

“Sing it again, sing it again,

 sing it again mummy.”

About This Poem

About the Author

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

Dear Judy

my favorite lines: When the electric power failed many times through many storms, we lit a dozen candles and sang with guitar chords. We marvelled at the lightning. We sang away our fear. Because we had each other and there’s power in the number three. This is enchanting. Many people would do almost anything for a memory like this (including me.) Lovely... Always, Cat

Lovely Judy. I envy you,

Lovely Judy. I envy you, not ever having any kids myself, but you helped me to feel what it couldn've been like to sing to my children. I sing to Zak, my pet rat, but he runs off! I wonder why? Rosina xena465

Judy

I see nothing to add correct or change in the delightful poem. It sure brought a smile to my face. It seems so long ago I heard those very words "sing it again" Very heart warming write. As I was reading I couldn't help but think it would make a great children's song Chrys
