rainfall
even the crows are silent
its coming down
this colour
this tint
holding fast to my morning
the dark hallway
as I tie my shoes
the coats lined
the dark wood stained
I dont need an umbrella
I wont melt
the mechanizm is already
drenched
what is rusted is that
patina worn proud
like heartbreak
water drains into the cups
of concrete holding
tips down the hills
beneath the round iron
grids
If I count right I can guess
how many days are left
before winter sets
before spring even gets
under way
and the flowers bloom
like the love pretended
chain like golden lace
glinting under street lamp
this is our stop
we shadow walk our
shadows
and long night cars pull
past with hooded eyes
passenger witness
the night stars are going
degree by degree
like the chill that seeps
in about the park trees
the silent boxcars
idle on the sidings
yards of mystery
and edge of cities
converted to sweeping
overpasses of
form like ships
ground up on reefs
of rocks
names scratched in paint
and flattened broken bottles
where they waited
the pines silent
no wind to make them
speak
no grasses to wave
like long spirit fingers
reaching for the heaven
I cannot attain
I walk in this rainfall
thinking of us
somewhere you exist
I know you do
and i will recognize
that curve of smile
starting left of centre
neath these stars the
city sleeps
and I dream awake
while night planes
stream in to land
lights blazing
far out above the lake
like the morning star
