Respect

Thank yous or pleases, will not spread diseases

They can be put to use as you will

It’s a guaranteed fact that politeness and tact

Have never made anyone ill

Civility’s free you can take it from me

That it won’t cost a penny, old chum

Practice a while with your Sunday best smile

Impoliteness makes everyone glum

Good manners are things that shouldn’t have strings

Every day they must be put to use

Exploit etiquette you will garner respect

‘cause for rudeness there is no excuse

As my mum used to say,

As my mum used to say, "Kind words cost nothing" she had hundreds of phrases like that and most of them true except the one about getting piles from sitting on a cold pavement. John

Great job on this one here

5 plus stars and moons, and sunshine, love it and sounds like mom and dad teaching us this at a very young age. Love Mona Learn to live, learn to forgive. Life is too short.

Mona, you are far too

Mona, you are far too generous, my mum was a stickler for manners and it looks like she passed it on to me. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. John

I've always loved your work Shazbat

but on this one I must repectfully disagree. Tact is too often lies. Sometimes harshness is needed to bring home a truth in denial. The evidence is here on Neopoet. I could give you a list of over 20 tributes to my harsh truthfulness. Polite is nice, truth is better. Well young man, I must admit

Well young man, I must admit that I prefer people to be brutally honest with me, but I'm afraid that I am a big softy who hates hurting peoples feelings, so I'll stick to being polite and telling the odd white lie. Regards John

“Respect is earned, not

"Respect is earned, not given by age or status" I used to tell my teachers something very like this when I was a child, many moons ago. Unfortunately, all it ever got me was six of the best and detention. I have just read your "Creepy christian" which I thought was excellent, so much so it prompted me to write "The word of God" its not my usual kind of thing (it doesn't rhyme) but with a bit of luck it will get the message across. Yes

Respect something my grandparents and my own parents raised us with. This was a good poem in spite of all its transgressional rants you recieved. Truth will set us free and I am so glad the respect is there for you and for I. Blessings, Mona Learn to live, learn to forgive. Life is too short.

Age can be senility

Elders can be very stupid Sycophantic comments can be deserving of nothing but contempt. Cheers, Jess, “The political arena leaves one no alternative, one must either be a dunce or a rogue.” Emma Goldman

Civility. Born out of

Civility. Born out of self-respect. Thanks John. ~A "Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." ~ A Course In Miracles
