Dawns reveal, Part five

The lodge was filled with a buzz

as people arrived for the feast

smells of baked goodness and love

tables filled with plate full’s of meat

People started gathering around the fire

carved wooden bowls make the rounds

torch lights dancing upon the dark water

there was even plenty for the hounds

Chief Seliq wa till was bundle of nerves

and the tribe couldn’t wait for the reveal

the elders all gathered as if to confer

excitement set alive for all to feel

Grandfather set the mood with sage

all wondered what it could possibly be

brought forth was a hide covered cage

as the children pushed forward to see

the shadows produced a cracked voice

“from beyond the painted horizon line

our gods have blessed us with choice

a gift felt and appreciated as divine”

“With this choice we were taught to fly

but not being born with our own wings

we had to learn the how and the why’s

and the different details of such things”

“in our quest for a teacher we met many

Old grizzly taught us skills to live and thrive

Uncle elk showed his uses in an epiphany

Mother earth sending us the rest to survive”

“But to fly we had to find brother hawk

it was him who could teach us to fly high

it was his special wisdom that was sought

free of whim and full of the reason why”

“With our lessons we started our family’s

and we remember with each generation

and to be all that we have been meant to be

a grateful part of life’s generous tribal tree”

With a flash of black powder for effect

the voice faded and the story with it

all the lights came back up, tension set

it was time to see the chief s big gift

Seliq wa till stepped in front of lay lo la

“Welcome to my family’s home and land

I present you this gift of feathered promise

as you might consider the offer of my hand”

With that he removed the hide cover

revealing a tall and proud red tail hawk

his eyes and wings a nervous flutter

who would have guessed or even thought

She was silenced with her mouth open

such a gift she could not have for seen

what would she ever do with or keep him

this spiritual gift, what does it all mean

Children pushed forward, the elders smiled

her reaction was such as they had intended

all were satisfied for traveling long miles

a song rang out while fancy dancers descended

Feel free to correct my lost

Feel free to correct my lost ryhmes, I may even use them. This muse is not standing up at the moment, but she has left a "will be back in 5" sign that gives me hope. Busy busy distractions. Julie D.D.
