SPRING GLOOM

 SPRING GLOOM

The snow now melts and with it so my heart,

the winter strides out into spring, the birds

sing in their throats with sudden vigour

chasing notes of winds and frosty cracks

across the lake to slake the thirst of

roe deer, moose, and rats.

There creep out animals from under doors,

the forest floors and matted hats of grass

now prostrate, flattened down,

their crown-jewels glowed in winters grip

but now they come alive and start to drip.

The burns begin to charge beneath their icy layers

and tow at leaves as wayside saplings wave about,

the buzzards scream and sigh on high, and sail at ease

while buds spring out high up among the branches

of the trees, and all awakens from a frozen dream

not gone, yet long, the blizzards have so tempered

all, with squalls and heavy wet white snow,

now soon to bloom as rainbows flash the gloom

and weave a poem in springs bright new loom.

And yet my own, its rhythms slowing down

have lost their crown and drown in tears of

sorrows, as those bright promised tomorrows loom,

and send my spirit soon to other worlds

where I can sit and study stones and bones,

those things that lie there when the winter's gone,

and strain my ear to hear when deafened, dumb,

I am without the other one, that youth in memory,

despite my years, is vivid still,

as I sit here beside my window sill.

Dear Ann

This may have sad undertones but this is brilliant. My oh my, dear one. You shall never slow down and you will forever see the beauty in all seasons, no matter where you are you will always bring joy to the reader and I hope spring brings to you a new lease on life. Your poem is a vivid colorful piece and I see from the changing phases you have written have made way for the new that will spring forth from your pen. Love to you and please, take care. Love from lyz. XX

Such loving friends you are

Ann of Norway Such loving friends you are I thank you as strongly as the feelings in the words of the poem describe. Yes, if ever I am feeling sad, life growing outside the window lifts my rags and lets me try a little dance again despite the rain. We are not perhaps born to be free, but we are born to be happy and its up to ourselves to set the stage for that to be so isn't it? As they say 'you are your own worst enemy' and so true that is. Love to you both Dear Rosina and Lyz, may you be happy.

Oh Pamela you swing my heart in time with yours

Ann of Norway How lovely to sway you like the pendulum of the clock as thats what such feelings awake, the uncertainty of future thoughts and deeds through experience's weeds and clutter, chiming their inevitable gongs of remembrance and the passing of time. Thank you, if that's what I should say, rather I love it that you rode on my words with such elegant attention. Ann

Bien fait, aussi!

This is a splendid poem, so rich, so vibrant...I love the rhythms and pacing, and the idea of spring not always being a time for rejoicing...who was "The other one", i have to wonder at the end of the poem? -Jhena

Thank you dear Jhena

Ann of Norway Jhena of the lovely name, you may well wonder, and it was a one who inspired such depth of feeling, we need to have the other to sense the furthest, the greatest most poignant expressions come into the sensitivity of our pens as we write, and write to impart the same feelings and sensations to the reader, and this is 'the one.' Noncommittal!!? Love to you Ann

Wow this one I felt so surreal it was and I know of which you speak. I can not hear your happy self in this one but I know we all are going through our own sorrows in the morrows. Spring is here, love is in the air and I miss you so much also. will catch up soon. Great imagery here and I love it as I see you looking out at me thru your windowsill to mine. Please forgive me I couldn't resist working on this, its such a beautiful poem I had to be a part of it. Its tone is so perfectly in tune with it's imagery. just love it.

Oh this was perfect,

Oh this was perfect, espeacialy today. Such a gloomy spring. I loved your flow and natural ryhme. It always feels so effortless. I strive to achieve that oneday. Not ruled or rushed. Realistic. Descriptive. I am so late to the game that it has all been said. But I had to let you know how much I enjoyed it anyways Ann. Julie

I guess its within me

Ann of Norway I do not strive to steer my mind, it steers me, I give it a few hints and it goes about its business quite without my guidance and to my eyes surprises myself with its choices and sense of rhythm, as if it were a waiting symphony of players, in the wings of the concert hall dithering with excitement and summoning all the powers within its grasp to adorn itself with words, I then stride out with the pen and fix the letters to the page and there they are, a perfect marriage of the mind with the imagination crystallising into a poem of a new shape, a new expression of time old ideas, yet created once again in my particular way. This may sound pompous as the use of the word perfect may trouble some, I do not think myself or my poetry perfect, but I do think that the workings of the mind are, in their own way, and it is mind-boggling how 'it' creates in the first place, this I admire in all who create things, the workings of the mind and the body in harmony with itself. What? I don't know, just a thought. Thank you Julie for your always lovely comment, wait for it there may be a less lovely one round the corner!!!!! Love to you Ann.
