A BETTER WAY (Song For The Redundant Man)

Now they don’t want me, now they don’t care

might just as well go back to bed, up those wooden stairs.

They took it all away from me, everything I knew

now it’s all gone and there’s nothing I can do.

I wondered if it would happen, ever happen to me

and now that it has, the future’s hard to see.

There has to be a reason, why it’s me this time

don’t think I want to know, just want to save my mind.

Maybe there’s a better way, a better way to be

maybe it’s out there waiting, waiting there for me.

Got to try to find it, got to take the time

see if I can find a way, to make the future mine.

Life is very different now, with no place to go

some days I’m fine, others times I’m low.

My thoughts remind me, of what I left behind

on a sad and lonely day, which often comes to mind.

But I must take a look, at what’s before me now

to see if I can try, to start again somehow.

Maybe follow a dream, is something I should do

and find somewhere else to be, where I can see it through.

Maybe there’s a better way, a better way to be

maybe it’s out there waiting, waiting there for me,

Got to try to find it, got to take the time

see if I can find a way, to make the future mine.

They can't

They can't take the most important things, your life and you're thoughts. And when have you ever heard of a poet with employment that lasts.Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and write. Try in the first verse, might as well go back to bed , up the wooden stair. Regards Roscoe..

hi

Hi Ells. Thank you for your comment. When I first wrote this poem I was serving my redundancy notice 8 years ago after 31 years of service. Luckily after around 80 applications I achieved employment until my recent early retirement at 61. This has allowed me time to make the most of life while I can and to do something with my poetry, like joining this website! So one way and another I've made things work for me and of course my family. Thanks for the encouragement. Kind regards, Tim

good emotive write Timbo

I think you tempered this a little as it hasn't the same passion of some of your other work but then remaining impartial is a good thing here as it would be very easy to be bitter about it. Seabhac

yes it’s true what you say

yes it's true what you say and of course I was not the only one made redundant at the time. I think I was trying to not be too negative as well. thanks again for your comments, best regards, Tim.
