Dreamtime

Dreamtime

I think perhaps
a whisper
is enough ~

my awakening face
sliced from the womb
this first day

will you be my clever man
my man
of high degree?

I erupt in lush vegetation
a secret serpent
coiled

ready to strike
a deadly embrace
bowl-shaped hollows

Kantju
Kali-tongue
flicking.

Hi Judy, I’ve been there

Hi Judy, I've been there in my dreams. I had some incredible dreamtime explorations throughout my life; some of it gets written into poems, along with other adventures. I traversed the universe once. ~A "A poem is never finished, only abandoned." ~ Paul Valery

The Lady of the Woods

I think this is your best yet. Or, at least, the best I've read. This poem really challenged me, and I had to spend some time researching Kantju. The best I could do is Kantju Gorge, which I believe is in the Kata Tjuta National Park - a sacred place to the aboriginal people who've lived there for 10,000 years and believe this is where their dreamtime begins. AH! A Clue! Let's see if I understand you: The first two stanzas - it won't take much to awaken you. Are you Vishnu who dreams the universe? Or are you an enlightened being, still, dreaming, preparing for the moment of waking (enlightenment)? The third stanza speaks for itself, but I sense a challenge there - perhaps you wonder if you've found your equal? The serpent in the fourth and fifth stanzas is the best part - it can mean so many things and is connected with Kali, Garden of Eden, and many other myth stories. In this one, I sense that you are dangerous, a predator and I suspect, a symbol of sexual desire. The serpent represents so many things, it's hard to determine what you're saying here, but I suspect you're saying many things at the same time and this, I like especially. Then there's Kuntju and Kali mentioned together - like a serpent strike! Kuntju, the holy place, the source of dreamtime and Kali, eternal energy, the ultimate experience. I'm reminded of the scene from Lord of the Rings where the Lady of the Woods considers taking the ring, and she becomes so powerful, she realizes she can't accept it, for what it would do to her. This is you. Kali, awakening. Enlightened and feeling the ultimate experience flow through you. I love it! Yes? --Will

YES I DID

I perhaps did comment On this wonderful poem Alas I don’t see my script, Perhaps someone erased it. Twas one of its own kind Perhaps someone did mind, A non poet how dares that one Comment on you Like an aura the only one Whose words of love praise And freedom do amaze, All and everyone And as I stand In the witness box, As a poet I sure am no one. Wonderful!

I love the phrase "erupts on lush vegetation" and the stanza "Will you be my clever man my man of high degree?" something i guess we all wonder on a literal level, so many more meanings symbolically. I love this poem because it says so much through so few words, the feat I think poetry is supposed to accomplish. Thank you for a great poem to start the morning! -Jhena
