Unbridled Love

20 years in the saddleOf another love.Girthed so tightlyMy breath was held fastHead held in a martingaleOf my dreamed desires. I trotted to his pace,Not mine.Reined in, held back.Strained,Bridle broke. I was brokenBut never tamed. My unshod feetFelt the wild of the earthI rolled in its strength and mine grew.  Then I met you.You held out your handGently touched me.No halter on your arm,No whip hidden. You never led me but tempted meTo follow,With a soft whinny and a flick of your tail.   I will gallop beside you,Our gaits matchedWe may stumble on uneven groundYet we are tied by the cordOf each souls connection to the light within.Never truly free.

HiI did like this one -

Hi I did like this one - though I would have ended it at "I rolled in its strength and mine grew." Every woman needs, to paraphrase Woolf, a paddock of their own !

Keen eye

The poem did stop at that point but I neede to relate the then to me the mare of now...no paddock for me with fences...Mongolian steppes or nothing, once you've felt that open wildness nothing else touches it. Seabhac

WoW!

This poem certainly has put it's spurs into me for the day! What a fabulously penned analogy to many a woman's tale! I know I can certainly relate! Particularly like: "I was broken But never tamed". Also liked the double entendre in the title - UNBRIDLED LOVE. Thank you so much for sharing! Boni

Dear Seabhac

coaxing the wild thing to follow ... when I was young we had a horse if it saw a bridle it would piss bolt and not come back for days ... you also hit a raw nerve finding it hard to say what I think love Jayne-Chloe x x x

Hi Jayne

I had to leave my horse behind in Ireland and still miss her a lot even though it has been a long time, I prefer to ride with as little tack as possible to really feel the horse beneath me. Thanks and sorry about the nerve but knowing you it will lead to a wonderful poem. Seabhac

I think it is universal, to not want to be yoked, tied too tight. To walk with because it is where you want to be. I really like this poem. Nice ideas, you wrote a poem here that many can relate to. raskin

Thanks raskin

We all find ourselves yolked at some stage in life without realising we had got ourselves there. It can be work, relationship or just family but once we are aware we can change it ...when there is little else there is always choice. Seabhac

Seabhac

This poem reminds me of men and woman that I have known or met in my life that seem to think that love is another word for, that is mine. In a marriage love is certainly not possesiveness. It is a mutual respect for each other. My lovely wife has always been free and I would not have had it any other way. The only thing that I possess is my wifes love. We never had money to throw around but a love that welded us together through thick and thin. This well phrased poem that I have been priveledged to read shows a break up of a marriage which to me personally is something sad. My marriage has lasted for fifty four years. Well written and certainly qualifies for a place high on this list Bern.

wonderful write seabhac

it seems to be a human trait to want to own both things and people, and it is a expression of true love to allow someone to be free. lol judy

Lovely Lady

For the first twenty-nine years of my life I knew what it was to be "broken but never tamed" then I met my present husband who allows me to be free and whose hand never touches the whip. My favorite lines are: Then I met you. You held out your hand Gently touched me. No halter on your arm, No whip hidden. You never led me but tempted me To follow, With a soft whinny and a flick of your tail. always, Cat

Hello Sea

I really enjoyed this. A nice metaphor, good rhythm, a choice of words that cannot be faulted. Show me the man who thinks that "reining in" his woman is the thing to do... ...and I'll show you an idiot who cannot see past the end of his own ego, and does not deserve the company of a woman in the first place.
