Do Sparrows speak Spanish

The sparrow hopped up to me, brave little chap,

Cocked his head to one side; gave his small wings a flap.

He let  out a chirp , then a whistle, then SAID

"Good Morning , kind sir!" winked and nodded his head.

"You SPOKE." I gasped, stunned. "But how can that be?"

"We speak English and Spanish - (sporadically) -

'spect sparrows spoke Spartan in days of old Greece

And would swear in Swahili, disturbing the peace."

"But  how many languages do you all speak?"

"I really don't know, some have Latin and Greek

Even ancient Egyptian! ..... Don't be in denial!

Be careful, that river  has huge crocodiles!"

"It's been very interesting talking to you."

Said the sparrow succintly, "Now it's time I flew."

I watched the wee winger, vanish from view,

Leaving me to persuade you that all this is true!

Do Sparrows speak Spanish?

Tam, I can easily answer this question, I have travelled extensively in Europe also in the Far East, and North Africa. In all of the countries that I have visited I have listened to the chirping of the Sparrows. YES Sparrows speak all languages and you Tam are a very lucky man to have been able to understand them. We that can understand are I am sorry to say few and far between. Most people do not bother to listen when for example the Dawn Chorus is sung to the Human Race by our winged friends to welcome us to another busy day even if it raining or snowing one can hear them. birds

I am a bit of a bird watcher and really enjoy the fascinating behaviour of these ex- dinosaurs. Strange that we find very few species of bird ugly. I also find Austria a delight for holidays, I love getting deplaned at Saltzburg and looking across to the mountains, knowing I won't be climbing them as I'm off to the lakes ! Kindest Regards Ian

Once again,

thanks for the cheer. My only complaint is the repetition of the Greek language in lines 7 and 10. Maybe, if you want to keep the alliteration in line 7: "spect sparrows spoke Sindhi in old Pakistan"? Although that does throw your couplets off. Dilemma. Spring is in the air; what is that I hear outside my window?-- "Je l'aime."

Was away for a bit so missed this

Loved the poem and the humour and well done for holding up the scottish flag in your skillful write. Now I know for a fact that the crows in Mongolia speak in a very different way so I can attest to their language skills but never met a single sparrow there...probaly their holiday season ...in Scotland ha ha. saltire holding

The sparrows were probably the little grey birds(volcanic dusty). Coughing and wheezing too much to speak."Do sparrows spit sputum?" Glad you enjoyed. Ian

Persuaded

This is great...the rhyming pattern is cool too - a little twist on the norm. Awesome!
