Last stand (work in progress)

A stain spreads on my page
as the real world invades my poetic realm

The usurpers come with burning crosses
bent on gagging my poetic licence
determined to tear down
this temple of free speech

I speak of tolerance, of peace
they bring intolerance and war
hate clings to their flying flags
abuse spills from their mouths
deafening, droning out the birdsong

my wordleafed tree is about to fall
the birds have fled
their swift wings will carry seeds
to new temples

even if I, the guardian of the tree
should fall today

Dear Nina

I am sorry to learn that others are using poetry for the furthering of hatred and ignorant prejudices. It is good to hear/ read you speak up against such intolerance. Love, Cat

Dear Cat,

thank you for your generous comment. I assume the stars were given for content rather than for form (I have already made two minor changes, but hope to come back to this write tomorrow to shape it up). It is a sad thing to see poetry used, abused, perverted. And I usually am the first to hold poetic licence and freedom of speech in high regard. Yours, ~Nina

Dear Julie,

this was about more than an open, if heated, debate. In other words: 't weren't you :) Yours, ~Nina

Thanks for the reasurance

Thanks for the reasurance Nina, You are still loved. And I still want all to be in peace and harmony. And even though "'t weren't" {so cute} the open dicussion. Your poem was a great peice. But if truth betold your frusterated writing reads much differant than your heart wreanching, or playful, or ecentric, or artist forms. Not bad, just differant. New things to learn for me, and harder to review. But I loved it all the same. Julie

Out of the abundance of the

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Neo will stand and the birds will return, because love is Neo[']s feathered nest; where the lion roars, and the brave take their stand, and the humble offer bread, and truth rises up on the wings of freedom to say all is forgiven, and let there be peace, and love, and poetry, and yes you spelled license wrong, and I forgive you, as I wish to be forgiven for every unplanted seed that died in my hand. I forgot that the chances of

I forgot that the chances of your being incorrect are no million to none, but one of these days Nina - one of these days when they don't spell the same word two different ways. We will be waiting( the guardians of propriety) when your a little sleepy ,or distracted, or I can pay the dictionary guys off, I will prevail and you will be forced to make an admission of fallibility how ever true or false it may be.When you are full of Margerrittas or black russians, or tequilas, or arguments about spotlight, or doing the AEC juggling act on one foot, we will be there to say AHH HA HA HA. When you slip a key or belch out a hearty fuck you to some nasty muck-urchin with their finger in your face. The world will come to an end, but regardless we'll all die laughing and write it up in the next poem. B

Dear Barry,

I have a lot of practice at embarrassing myself. The usual outcome when I am caught with a typo is that I fall over laughing - at myself. So far, my typos on this site amount to two (that I am aware of), but I have misused many words to a certain extent, out of sheer bloody ignorance, or it may have been Freudian spelling ;) My most famous typo - I was very, very tired when I wrote that, and it has often happened to me in talking too - was in a comment on one of Rett's poems. I wrote lawing mowns instead of mowing lawns. Are you laughing? So was I. Yours, ~Nina

Stars for the format and stars for the content!! I believe in this one for sure very much so. You hit it right on the nail, and the best thing to do is go forward and let go of some of the injustices and prejudices that human beings present themselves with or others. Your a really great person and no one can take that away from you unless you let them. And now that I made my speech I send to you boxes of cookies to warm your heart and comfort your pain. Thinking of you and hoping you smile today. Love and Hugs to you' Magicsmomma LOL "Determination Brings Success"
