on Waratah nights

I sit in the dark, as far off
the scent of Waratah wafts
reminding me of you,

my mouth curves
a memory, as my face tilts
the moon, her red veils
run up my chest

faraway down the road
we may meet again
across a canyon of time,

our eyes will connect

I often wonder what yours
will dare tell me,
at the first dawning
will a ray of remembrance
burst through your iris

or will our words of anger
sour every glance,
turning those blue eyes
opaque

I live in wonder,
I breathe forgiveness
and only god knows
who you are anymore

but the waratah, ever blooms
of you and sickle moons
in my smiles

so hope lives
on the whispered sense of night,

and maybe only in my heart

exquisitly soft and radiant

Exquisitely soft and radiant imagery- magnified by this stanza that enhance the olfactory, visual texture of the poem to an almost spiritual plane of thought: I sit in the dark, as far off the scent of Waratah wafts reminding me of you this stanza succinctly sets the mood and tone of the poem beautifully that then unfolds into the merging of feeling combining the Waratah with the hope of the blossoming feelings within the writer. A poem that is a pleasure to read in it's depth and sensitivity. Love what you are writing these days. B

I think scent is the

I think scent is the strongest sense, immediately taking us to a memory--the gift of recognition. Lovely lovely poem dear JayCee, everytime I smell lilacs and the stargazer lily, I know my mother is near. The scent comes from nowhere and permeates my life. The last words my mom said was *I forgive you*... took a long time to understand. Love, Mommy "If parents really would love their children there would no longer be any war." J. Krishnamurti

I read someone once, can’t

I read someone once, can't remember who. I think it may have been in the 'Book of Enoch.' ~The senses of sight, hearing, touch and taste are for the body. The sense of smell is for the soul~ (or something like that) lol Judy

book of enoch

I don't think anyone knows who wrote it. It's supposed to be the writings of Enoch, the one who didn't die: All of the generations of Adam lived so many years, had sons and daughters, "and then ... died." "When Enoch had lived 65 years he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God and then he was no more because God took him away." lol Judy

You make me long to smell the perfume of this flower:-

Ann of Norway "my mouth curves a memory, as my face tilts the moon, her red veils run up my chest" The movements of scents as they run through the heart oh magic poetry by our Jayne of the seeing sense of smell the colours of smell the sounds of smell the spirit of smell, we can tell you have understood something beyond the ordinary and yet something also ordinary made extraordinary. I don't know the flower. I do know the poetess and love her.

bernard shaw Hello Jane, I am slowly working my way through some excellent poems by some very skilled writers. I was given a bunch of Fresias(Spelling) the other day they smell so wonderful and your lovely poem reminded me of them. I have Family in Aussie-Land and my brother alas now deceased grew many Aussie flowers in his huge garden. I am sure he once mentioned the Waratah in one of his many letters. Keep your magic pen working you have a gift my dear. Bern.
