Regarding God

For those with no faith, no persuasion, no creed

the next is a moot question.

But for those who muse on a deity,

one queries some inventions.

I hear some describe Him as merely a force.

And only of good they say.

I hear them scoff at the concept

of a father God per se.

So what then do most consider as true?

Those who believe in a God?

That we are in his image

seems the major message plot.

And that God is perceived as in everything.

So if the belief in God is endorsed,

and if God is seen as in all things

then it can’t be just labelled a force.

A personality He surely must have.

(She must have one too,)

if the leap of faith is taken

and God is seen as true.

For how else can we be part of it?

Them and me and you?

Can we claim distinctiveness

and deny God has it too?

About This Poem

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

Hi Judyanne, I read this

Hi Judyanne, I read this several times and although I liked it, I can't understand it. I don't know what they mean when they say we are made in God's image when He's meant to be invisible and everything. No-one is ever going to be able to explain God, are they? And if people say there's nothing there, who made the nothing that is there?

Thanks for commenting

Thanks for commenting Claire. Don't worry about not being able to understand it - I'm sure you won't be the only one. How anyone reads this will probably depend on how they perceive the universe and beyond. I just think if God is in all things (and I do believe in a God of my own making - not particularly the one taught of by institutions) then He She) has to have a personality, for how can we have something He (She) hasn't?

A huge enlightening

A huge enlightening experience happened when I realized we silly humans got it bassbackwards... The image thingy...(like a mirror). We create God in our own image. However, that which created all THIS is infinitely more than we can ever imagine. Cool poem, Judyanne. ~A "If parents really would love their children there would no longer be any war." J. Being made in God’s image,

Being made in God's image, according to my understanding, means that humans have the capacity to show the same attributes that God has i.e Love, Justice, wisdom and power etc Not that we are like him in a physical sense, he is a spirit and has a different body but, as you say, he has a "distinctive personality," just as we have. But he also has dynamic power or energy, that's how he created the universe. I enjoyed reading this poem - as you can tell I have my own beliefs - but it is always interesting to hear other peoples point of view, after all it may well enhance our own. I think you are brave to tackle such a contraversial subject, it will be interesting to see what other people think. Him/Her. Love Mand

God is life. We, and all

God is life. We, and all things, are life experiencing life. But God is other things as well. We are only a small, small part of the experience of God. Thanks Mand. lol Judy

I have really only taken one

I have really only taken one point in an infinity of points - to argue against those who don't belive in a personal God, a 'father figure', but prefer to just believe in God as a 'force' with no real attributes (and usually only of 'good'. Thanks Mand.

Yes I see that now, I liked

Yes I see that now, I liked the last line "Can we claim distinctiveness and deny God has it to." I'm with you on this one, and it's refreshing to be able to talk about it openly, people often shut down when it comes to talking/thinking about God. Thank you for having the courage to address this subject. Love Mand

Faith in God is one of the

Faith in God is one of the strongest attributes to possess. I like that you stated that it wasn't inbred in you and that it was your choice...this is important because a lot of believers follow God like robots, not understanding the real concept of what or who God is. I just wish I had your faith, but like you said, you have to believe within yourself for faith to be true...very well said and written Judy. Rosina xena465
