More Than Love

            More Than Love

I've listened to the love songs
that speak of heart and soul
I've read the words of poets
as they write of love they know
      Those words are not enough
to describe just how I feel
To explain how you possess me
         what my inner soul reveals

What words was I to use
         to explain the agony
To tell all the pain and horror
when I thought you were leaving me
When I thought that fate was cruel
         taking you away too soon
Taking all my hopes and dreams
'fore we danced beneath the moon

      Tell me what superlatives
         can possibly describe
The flush that runs through my body
         simply hearing you say hi
When you whisper words of love
         or call me bonehead playfully
I have yet to learn the word
that defines the love in me

Never have I felt this feeling
oh so close..and yet so far
      Nothing ever meant so much
to find me wishing upon a star
      I'll continue with my search
here on earth and up above
To find the word to best explain
         ...so much more than love.

first word to come to mind: wow

It's a very lovely poem, so many can identify with this feeling of not being able to express who much we really love someone. Thank you for putting that feeling down on paper.

It is a thing of it's own, being in love.. Can there really be a word? I think many in a combination.. Very beautiful writing, Jetz.. Truly, Mark "I do not walk the earth and eat out of dumpsters, I'm not a bum, I'm beat."

Hi Indi, Somehow I knew,

Hi Indi, Somehow I knew, after our one and only "meeting" that the time would come that I would come under your scrutiny. I am not a writer. I am not a poet. I am a woman that appreciates those that are. I love poetry, and I do have a good handle on what I enjoy from the poetry I read. My taste, may not necessarily, follow the "rules" for "AWESOME"(5 stars),poetry as you have stated but, then how boring that would be, for us to all have the same views. Cliches? Hallmark-ish? I do believe with the reading of one poem you have figured me out!! I like "Lifetime" movies as well. I know the point you are trying to make. I also appreciate you taking the time to read and reply. When the mood hits me to write, I write. I write what's in my heart. Perhaps one day, I will write something that is totally awesome and completly unique. Perhaps not. Please know, I do appreciate your thoughts, and advice. Sue

A very worthy poem!

You've captured the spirit of love here even though you're still reaching for that elusive description! True love is really quite hard to describe anyway, so just go with the flow! Great job!
