Old London Town
Impressive statues, limestone bricks
Street performers do their tricks.
Tributes to the brave of war
Horses, donkeys, dogs galore.
The glitz and glamour of the stars
People crammed in theatre bars.
The Beetles stride on Abbey Road
Soldiers guard the Queens abode.
The steady chimes of city bells
Ringing past the chestnut smells.
Pick pockets seek your wallet bare
Beggars stalk St James square.
Plane trees line the streets of gold
Monuments to times of old.
Manikins stare back at shoppers
Dressed in slim line party stoppers.
Listening to the doppler’s sound
Of the tube train underground.
Inside St Stevens clock, Big Ben
Strikes the dulcet tones of ten.
Sightseers ride the London eye
Watching tourists from on high.
Bridges o’er the river Thames
Ripples past the camera's lens.
Protesters camp in flimsy tents
Demonstrating their laments.
Travelling through the cities veins
Taxis, buses, coaches, trains.
East enders with the cockney lilt
Built this city on the silt.
I hope that you’ve enjoyed this tour
Come along there’s plenty more.
Like or loathe, smile or frown
There’s nothing like old London town.
