Home Alone

home alone

in the gloom of
the darkest night,
awakening to rain
streaking the bedroom
window pane,
lightning slashes the sky
as thunder
cracks an explosion
so close as to deafen.
Suddenly, a creak
of the door
in the hallway
on the first floor,
then the squeak
of footfalls
on wooden stairs.
Suddenly, a hideous yowl
accompanies footsteps!
Imagination running
wildly in the night,
sinking down, small,
in the vulnerable bed,
pulling thin covers
up over your head,
holding your breath
in anticipation
of something deadly
coming to call
with a bloody knife.
As the clock chimes
midnight, striking the hour,
the cat jumps on the bed,
done with its nightly prowl,
greeting you with a sound "meow!"

Nice to meet you too. I love

Nice to meet you too. I love your cat. I used to have three cats and experienced many a time when I heard noises when I thought my cats were all on the bed...one time...what I thought was Zara, who used to sleep at the left side of me on the bed, was actually my slipper that one of the cats had placed on the bed and zara, was in the bathroom moving around. I thought someone was in my house. Great poem. Rosina xena465

They sound beautiful. My

They sound beautiful. My cats were, Kuddles, mostly black with white breast and white paws, long-haired, he was 10 yrs old, Charlee, she was a big cat and pure white, 10 yrs old & Zara he was a tiger-stipe cat, 20 yrs old. All beautiful cats that I loved very much. I've had depression most of my life. When my sister died six years ago it developed into severe depression. I attempted suicide a few times and one time I had to stay in hospital for 10 days. I live alone and the people who were looking after my cats did so, so badly that I called Cat Rescue to re-home them. I had to know that they would be safe. While I was ill I couldn't be sure of that, so I sacrificed my love for them to ensure they would always be safe. They are in good secure homes now...I kept in contact until they were re-homed, but Cat...they'll always be my cats. Giving them up didn't help me...far from it...I had to do it for them...I love them that much and still do. Rosina xena465

Dear Rosina

I'm sure your sacrifice of love cost you a great deal of personal anguish. I wish there were something I could say to comfort you. I understand completely. I have gone to great lengths for many of my own pets safety and happiness. I once drove my beloved little cockatiel bird across the country to a friend whom I knew would love and care for him. Lucy, my calico and Vivian the Himalayan are cats that we adopted from a lady who was going to have them destroyed if she couldn't find them a home. They have been one of my greatest blessings. I hope that you find comfort and happiness in your life. (Hugs) Love, Cat

Someone having my cats

Someone having my cats destroyed or given to unsuitable owners was my greatest fear. That's why I gave them to Cat Rescue. They never destroy healthy cats and I knew that my cats were brought up in a loving home with a loving owner...me... that they'd be snapped up in no time. Kuddles was re-homed within a week and because Zara and Charlee were so close it took three weeks, as I insisted that they not be separated, which they weren't. That's what keeps me sane about losing them. I know they're happy and well looked after. I have many videos of them, and when I'm brave enough, I can see them, and will continue to see them with me in my home for as long as I live through my videos. Rosina xena465

Styx?

Cat, can this really be Styx, it has a happy ending!! I'd call it Midnight Prowler and I'd change the end into a bloody thirsty melee...but that's just me. Good job though, kept the suspense all the way through, HS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth and yet nobody sees me".
