Addiction

Dishes not rinsed, not washed, not stacked.

My kitchen looks as if it’s been sacked.

The floors need sweeping.

The furniture dusting.

The windows want cleaning.

The cutlery’s rusting.

No food in the fridge.

I haven’t been shopping.

Run out of paper for bum and nose-wiping.

Bed not made, the sheets all a mess.

Progressively harder to find a dress.

No clean clothes, the laundry is full

but there’s no soap powder to wash them all.

The garden needs tending.

I’m not really sleeping.

At work my feet dragging

from late nights I’m keeping.

You see I’ve discovered

a whole group of friends

and instead of housework

I’m chatting to them.

I’m hooked like a junkie

in a venture unique

of floating ideas

and kindly critique.

I’m at my computer at every spare moment

trying to think of good rhymes to quote.

Caught up in reading talented others.

And it’s all the fault of Neopoet.

About This Poem

About the Author

Region, Country: Western Australia, AUS

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

Thanks for visiting licia. My son set me up on facebook but I rarely use it as I'm really not computer literate, however I love this site and have found that perhaps cyber isn't so bad after all. Judy

I'm still sitting in my robe, how's that for being pc (in)correct? Neopoet rocks and rolls and now I'll shower, change my socks, don't have time to darn the holes. Laughing all the way into the shower, ~A p.s. (Just kidding---I don't darn socks!)

Joined the club have ya

Joined the club have ya Judy, Yes Neo can be addicting. And like any addiction needs to be checked occasionaly. But the house will be fine. After the first rush, its easier to moderate. For some. Not nessesaraly me. Yes addiction is the right comparison, lol! I Julie am a Neo-holic! We both now have taken the first step to recovery, admitting we have a problem! But do we really want to recover from this wonderful addiction after all? Very funny read Judy. Thanks for sharing it, most will relate! Julie D.D.
