great ending.

brown hued? Come on, you can do better than that. Has potential to be a real gem this. Cheers, Jess, reprehensibly irrepressible

true

Good point. What about grey, hardened? Trying to get the frozen and color concepts across so that it's fairly obvious that it's soil. ~Jess K. ----------------------- "Life is the sun, and the show must go on and on; make it come true. Jess

What about something like winter worn soil or something to do with clay and loam like rusted clay and soil rich loam does that help any? confused with that ending did you mean it to be that way or good and ready I agree with Jess ( for this time at least lol) I know and have seen you do better Chrys

Thx all

Jess - They aren't counting spaces for this contest, but with the title, it's exactly 100. I still have 27 days to mull it over. I like your suggestion and may try to work around it. Mom - the 'good and' is intentional... saw it in a book once, and liked how it sounded when it was flipped around like that. David - I'm not really too keen on acrostics, but I will try to make the opening a little stronger somehow. I only have 100 characters to work with, so it's probably gonna take a few times to get it right. Haven't seen you in forever! I've missed you! Will swing by soon to see if you have anything new. ~Jess K. ----------------------- "Life is the sun, and the show must go on and on; make it come true. Life is the sun, and the road goes on and on; paint this song any colour but blue." - Don Ross

To Crack the topic..

perhaps an Acrostic of D.I.R.T. would unfreeze a phrase to relate your winter write. As is a three for the direction it promises.. In ink, Dabbler " Thinking is relative to.."

The contest was to write about dirt. It's winter here, so the soil is frozen (locked under icy forges) It's the sustainer of life, because plants grow from it... etc. When mother nature decides to make it warm again - then it will return to being viable. That help? ~Jess K. ----------------------- "Life is the sun, and the show must go on and on; make it come true. Life is the sun, and the road goes on and on; paint this song any colour but blue." - Don Ross
