Lost

One doesn’t have to go to Asia to see how cruelty fares.

Forget for now the hurt laid on the elephants, gorillas. bears.

From downtown Perth, Australia, (it all seems so unreal,)

comes a news story of the kind to make one’s blood congeal.

I query what makes people tick that they can be so mean.

And what I hear now on TV sounds like someone’s bad dream.

A couple arrived home from work to find their house invaded.

The place a mess, their belongings all destroyed, stolen, degraded.

But worse, when searching for their dog - a puppy of tender age -

they found it cowering, and what they saw would’ve sent a saint to rage.

I’m reaching yet again for a tissue for my tears.

For the bastards had kicked this poor little mutt then cut off both its ears.

Then as if that itself was not enough, a few days later on

these terrible people again broke in and killed the poor little one.

I’m left again to wonder, ás my heart feels like it’s breaking,

will evil be amongst us always? Has God stopped good men making?

And I question if I cry my tears for that poor pup alone.

Or do I shed a few for humanity’s loss of home.

For when we all travel back and He sees us coming that day,

will He forgive us with arms open wide? Or will He turn His face away?

About This Poem

About the Author

Region, Country: Western Australia, AUS

Favorite Poets: Favourite poets? So many, so varied. I like particular songs, not necessarily the singer... and the same goes for poetry. I can honestly say though, that Alfred Noyes' The Highwayman was what inspired my love of poetry - my mother began reading it to me when I was still a baby, and it became my favourite bedtime story

That was so sad Judy, I

That was so sad Judy, I love animals! Are you trying to make me cry! Oh snuffle snuffle. I think I will be ok. But how horrendess. I think this second post realy shows how caring you are and tells us more about you than the first. I like that. My only suggestion is to see if maybe you could cut out a few of the extra words. A couple of the's and it's maybe for flow. But I cyred my eyes out, I loved it. Julie D.D.

Yes indeed it exists all over the world not just here

wow this one touched me too as I have a pet dog and love him like a baby, I would be horrified to say the least if someone did that to him or my child for that matter. This day and ages are just not like the olden golden days, too much badness and not enough happiness. Thanks for sharing Magics02 "Determination Brings Success"
