No hope for me in that department then,

Cupid's fly eggs

I am a fan of the short, specific poem, and the conceit you set up works for me. It gets a little prosey in Line 5, easily fixed. The reference to drawers throws me; perhaps doors for a cupboard metaphor would work better, and there's no change in the temp or sound with that. It's is a hard word to use successfully in verse (Line 2), might want to substitute "body's in my cupboard." Even though it's a short poem, I would use to stanzas to break up the space and to mirror the change. With those small changes: Romance is dead Body’s in my cupboard Growing maggots A decaying mass With no room for me Think I'll lock up my doors and try my hand at science.

Thanks for your analysis.The reference to drawers refers to underpants too,so I quite like the dual meaning..

Can you get that in the poem then, or do I just live in the wrong country to understand the reference for cupboard? In the US, it's something you would keep in the kitchen, maybe a bathroom. So that was not in my reading.

Thanks for your comment Nicole..that's why art is so fascinating..you just have to keep on digging deeper to find out what the author was reading about,but at the end of the day the key thing is how a piece of work makes you feel,and what thoughts it inspires..or not as the case my be..

Thanks for your comment..the can of science-that's my job..so I s'pose it's abit of a personal reference.Science is easy,striaghtforward,clear guidelines..teh world of emotion is just that much more complex..hey ho.
