The Drifter

Here I Stand

A drifter lost amongst these rotten streets

My name covered by the shrill screams of passersby, tossed aside like a piece of rancid flesh

This body battered and broken, these clothes torn and tattered

Confined by the emptiness before me, trapped within my solitude

But as I close my eyes and immerse myself within darkness my thoughts drift to you

And there you stand my saviour my salvation, a waterfall to quench my thirst and wash the blood from my wounds

You relinquish these chains as every touch of your lips to mine fills me completely

Feeding off your bread of life I watch as oceans hug the sky and as the seasons change to match your scent

Blistered feet soak into the earth as I breathe in your life

With every step closer to you ringing a new light into this world, a light of hope, a light of love, a light of peace shining beyond this reality

This is where I belong, amongst the freedom of this reality and the beauty of you

This profound beauty which can only exist in this world in which you exist to make it beautiful

Sadly, I lay beside you knowing that every breath draws the sunlight closer, and with it your end

Here I stand a drifter lost amongst these rotten streets

Until we meet again

Hello Mystic...

I just found your poem... I was just saying goodnight to the day... and this is a beautiful poem to dream on. It flows very gracefully. A smooth rhythm that carries you along. Exquisite. Gentle regards, Raven
