The Death of a Soldier in The First World War
The body of a soldier
over in No Man's Land
Bullets have ripped
through his body
His wool uniform
soaked in blood
and covered in mud
A look of terror
on his face
as if he is
about to die
One can only wonder
what horrors he has seen
How many of his comrades
that have fallen
before his eyes
His flesh rotting
waiting for burial
to return to the earth
Never reporting for duty again
but at ever lasting peace
His soul not having to
wander the earth for all eternity
over in No Man's Land
Bullets have ripped
through his body
His wool uniform
soaked in blood
and covered in mud
A look of terror
on his face
as if he is
about to die
One can only wonder
what horrors he has seen
How many of his comrades
that have fallen
before his eyes
His flesh rotting
waiting for burial
to return to the earth
Never reporting for duty again
but at ever lasting peace
His soul not having to
wander the earth for all eternity
