WE SAW SOME BIRDS...
WE SAW SOME BIRDS… Hard it is to forget the beautiful birds we sawOn a safari ride to West Kiang park, last DecemberAnd a boat ride through the creeks of north bank Birds like Bee-eaters in sporadic flightsAfrican Darters dived in to hide from viewMalachite Kingfishers waited for the tide Marabou storks watched the intruding partyGrey and Red Heron with warning whingesHinted some Horn Bills, trailed by Gonoleks Red Bishops Soared away from the engine noiseLaughing Doves mocked the others in the mudAs glossy Starlings and Pelicans flap their wings The birds sang their innocent songs of guiltTo the distorted history of our forgotten peopleAnd bore witnesses to the invading companies Eco-tourist nudged, natural habitat, not safeEscaped city dwellers bow at sacred grovesOf Tendaba camp on the bank of River Gambia
