Between Brittle Pages

Between Brittle Pages
.

If I find a strand of your fair
hair locked between brittle pages of verse
mounted to the dynamics of social integrity
    and the misbehavior of mankind,

    I will find you.

I will feel your DNA captured mid words
    chauffeured past witnessed wreckage
on the edge of streets that might have been
better swept with a clean broom

    after a midnight rain.

And your mind, a mining train in central station,
    is sensation portrayed in countless records;
written words traced on rugged faces
of iron miners and liberal politicians

    who remember.

I will smell your dusty pages, breathe in your cement
    pencil-lead scent of scribbled words
    smudged on paper coffee cups
tucked deep into a tattered briefcase,

    and I will inhale you.

    I will know  - you.
.
.
.

          I will know you
          when opened book covers
          reveal your heart song,

and when I weep within the rhyme scheme of your words
I will know it is you who has touched me -

          immortal.

Sigh

Aww Pamela, this is brilliant, I only hicupped on the way you spaced between the single lines, I did read again and they blended in nicely and I enjoyed your play on words. What a wonderful way to describe a poets words left behind for all to read. Love Lyz. XX

Thank you for taking a moment to read and leave your thoughts. I am so pleased you enjoyed this. Perhaps we all hope to leave a legacy of one kind or another for our children, our children's children - and speaking of, I hear you have a new grandchild on the way? *smile* It must be such an exciting time. Thank you again. ~Pamela

These are wonderfully crafted lines & very evocative sentiments,

A pleasure to have discovered this piece, though I will return when I am clearer in mind it's very late here. These are wonderfully crafted lines & very evocative sentiments, a lovely discovery. Cheers Anni~ "To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." ~William Shakespeare, Hamlet.
