The Light of Compliment (Kyrielle)

The Light of Compliment (Kyrielle)

So delicate, our firmament
whose shine with dignity and grace,
believes the light of compliment
while piety commands its trace.

As adulation's orb will glow
and brighten midnight's velvet face
soft passion finds its peaked plateau
while piety commands its trace.

Involvement for life's greater good
commands that care cannot erase
the bend of weeping willow's wood
while piety commands its trace.

Forged deep beneath lust's dampened sound
allegiance turns its fond embrace.
Yet, love believes in rooted ground
while piety commands its trace.

And as our coruscation shines
we find our hearts cannot replace
the path that lover's zeal defines
while piety commands its trace.

Prompt:   A Midnight Full of Stars

Kyrielle

A Kyrielle is a French form of rhyming poetry written in quatrains (a stanza consisting of 4 lines),
and each quatrain contains a repeating line or phrase as a refrain (usually appearing as the last
line of each stanza). Each line within the poem consists of only eight syllables. There is no limit
to the amount of stanzas a Kyrielle may have, but three is considered the accepted minimum.

Some popular rhyming schemes for a Kyrielle are: aabB, ccbB, ddbB,

with B being the repeated
line, or abaB, cbcB, dbdB.

Mixing up the rhyme scheme is possible for an unusual pattern of:

axaZ, bxbZ, czcZ, dxdZ, etc.
with Z being the repeated line.

The rhyme pattern is completely up to the poet.

Though rhyme is not my form.

Though rhyme is not my form. I admire those who excell in it.I think this poem shows a lot of merit and dedication to this art form, and I hope you will continue to grow, and learn, with the rest of us. Barry ,,,o,,

Pam, As someone who

Pam, As someone who *accidentally* rhymes, I definitely admire those who rhyme, who excel in other poetic endeavors other than free verse. I am only now learning just how many there are. I've tried a few, fairly successful. But to excel in these forms AND be sublimely poetic... as you have demonstrated! Wow! ~A

Thank you

I am pleased you enjoyed this Kyrielle. I love the form for expressing emotion in particular, but it is difficult to keep that anchor line from sounding over-used. I am glad you found the repetition to your liking. Thank you again. *smile* ~Pamela

Wish I could be...

as technical AND as poetic as you are. I'm not nearly this good technically, but sure can appreciate your expertise. And to use a word like coruscation, is just... Wow! I have been reading your works, and know that you can teach us all something. Glad to see like it here! ~ Gee

I have no doubt that you can and do incorporate mechanics with poetic value. No doubt at all. I am pleased you enjoyed this Kyrielle. Use of repetition in poetry is often difficult because it simply "gets old" so any ideas for improving this will be warmly welcomed. In addition, I do like to find new and interesting words - everyone knows that stars twinkle in a midnight sky - its been done a million times so - hmmm coruscation had the right fit in meaning and syllable count. AND it sounds fun when you say it. *giggle* Thank you so much for your encouragement. I appreciate your words very much. ~Pamela

I do what I...

do by instinct, what sounds good, and looking at other's work. I don't know the technical terms for most of the things I do. You and others that do know, facinate me, but not enough to take up the sport[so to speak]. I am too awfully interested in saying whatever I have to say,[egotistical, I guess]. I'm one of those people that was in Honor's English, but got through by looking at examples, of what was wanted, and then doing it. Kinda like those Idiot Savants. I really do appreciate your kind words, and seeing the new words and forms from you. Excellent work, and smart too! ~ Gee

You are kind

Perhaps the, we can learn from each other. I struggle with free verse. But, I am a firm believer that a good writer is comfortable in all genre, so I keep working at my free verse. ... and my haiku. I can't write a decent haiku for love or money. LOL. Thoughts? ~Pamela
