lolita

she kicked her boots up high
put her legs behind her head
her red hair flaming her shoulders
as they tumbled onto the bed

she’d had one man too many
hell she’d had them all
her name was Lolita
and she was no man’s fool

she’d had them on the table
on the front room floor
she’d had them in the grave yard
an up against the wooden church door

they kissed her sweet perfume
licked her cherry tops
held her gushing flowers
as she screamed from the roof top

know me now
I am Lolita
I am who all the girls want to be
know me I am Lolita
and I am sexually free

I’m not constrained by social morals
worried by the cross bearers views
I’m sure of who I am
I can’t be accused of being confused

so when you’re cold and lonely
invoke the image of me
embody who I am
it’s Ok to be sexually free

i really enjoyed this one

i really enjoyed this one though I think it could have been shorter. I think the beginning of the poem infers pride in sexual freedom without having to then go on explicitly say it - for me, that is the joy of poetry sometimes (or most of the time, really!) On the whole though, I enjoyed this one and it's intended message.

I have always believed

it so foolish that men can sow their oats to quiet snickers; but girls must be ladies. "tender young Alice, they say, come over and meet me, come over and greet me: alice, it's my turn today!" Elton John great job ken

Ok, morning Kal. This i can

Ok, morning Kal. This i can see is a sensitive issue for you. Firstly id like to say that, I have never read the book or seen the film Lolita, I just like the name. It is what i would have called my new baby if i hadn't already decided. Secondly, i do know through conversation that the book is about a tempress teen, well that is what i had gleaned. My ''little'' poem was not meant to be taken seriously at all. It was a little ryhme that came into my head last night. i|t for me was a welcome bit of fun after a difficault day writing bruised mind. Now after reading all the comments i see it caused a stir and debate. I would not like to offend anyone. thats just the way i am. I do understand where you are coming from. definately, but.... there is never any excuse for violence, rape, abuse of any kind. i got ripped to pieces on a kilroy show years ago for saying woman should be able to wear what they like and men shouldnt see it as a red light for sex. ''nieve'' i was called. i still stick to my guns now. i am an empowered woman. i wear what i like, weather that be, next to nothing or completely covered up. i do what i like when i like. taking into consideration reasonable not offending others, (i wou;ldn't go to turkey uncovered, a mosque with out a head scarf ect) If i look a little deeper at what is meant to be a silly light poem, i think it is really saying ''woman should have the choice'' sex between consenting adults, is not wrong dirty, rude, ect/. society has made it that way, depraved people will abuse rape beat a woman no matter what she wears who she sleeps with. It is the abusers problem not the woman, there will always be an excuse in the abusers eyes. If all woman are above reproach by acting pure, is an unfair concept and allowing abusers to get away with their veiws. This is only my opinion though. childsex slaves and victems are a completely seperate matter. ''sharon'' is as derogatery as lolita in essex where i live. I am so thankful for all the lovely supportive feed back you give, so i take a deep breath as i say this, but i see you have insulted Jayne saying about cactus in the deserts. its unfair, she doesn't deserve it and it demeans you to lower yourself to such base. The kind of thing that gives you nice guys a bad name. vicki

Ok off the cuff response.

Ok off the cuff response. Names retain their power if we let them. no one can ever be called hitler again, lets him keep his power even in death. every name holds a horrible tale it is just that some make it public. I believe in moving on from the past. now Hitler is a biggy but if many people joined together and called their children hitler an those children did good things in time it would dispell the evil ''thing'' surrounding the name. although i know this is a difficault task. If i had another child and it was a girl i would still call her lolita, it is a beautiful name. It is upto the individual to rise up and dispel myths. As for if a man wrote this, that is like saying that black people can't call each other ''nigga'' However i believe lots of guys are treated poorly by woman, it just isn't as publised and when they are treated bady sexually in the work place they have every right to stand up and complain as much as the next woman. Its about context. i look forward to further debating vicki ; )

Vicki, I’ll be the first

Vicki, I'll be the first woman to comment on this then. There may be some grammatical errors, some words I'd change around (perhaps), but I really appreciate the context and your bravery (again!) So I'd like to open a taboo subject... are *children*, especially young girls sexual beings? Putting aside dirty old men....and all. Or is this another way of subjugating the female species? I think it's the later. And bravo for you Vicki! I'm tired of society victimizing women, girls, albeit as *protector*. ~Anna And now for the spelling etc. she kicked her boots up high put her legs behind her head her red hair flaming her shoulders as they tumbled onto the bed she’d had one man too many hell she’d had them all her name was Lolita and she was no man's fool she’d had them on the table on the front room floor she’d had them in the grave yard an up against the wooden church door they kissed her sweet perfume licked her cherry tops held her gushing flowers as she screamed from the roof top know me now I am Lolita I am who all the girls want to be know me I am Lolita and I am sexually free I'm not constrained by social morals worried by woman's lib views I'm sure of who I am I can’t be accused of being confused so when you're cold and lonely invoke the image of me embody who I am it's Ok to be sexually free Vicki, I often use a lower case I, but in this poem you pack power...so *I* would be appropriate. Also the 5th paragraph imo, needs the I am spelled out, without contraction. It's Lolita's declaration!!! (By the way, capitalizing her nam, Lolita is the right thing to do.) Well done Madame Fuckwit. ~A

Wow such debates for

Wow such debates for somethng meant to be so light hearted. thankyou for correcting i will do that. Such a hard write was bruised mind, as in tiering, that this piece was a welcome bit of light hearted fun, it literally tripped off the tongue in seconds with no real thought... opps. i think you may have read the book, oranges arn't the only fruit? I haven't, only the introduction that talks about children being sexual beings. Well of course they are, in a nieve and innocent way. Something that feels niceis enevitably going to be explored as is the human way of inquisitiveness. Adults are the ones who make children feel bad for something natural, and as you know adults are the ones that exploit children. but as in doctors and nurses, well i was an avid player. Maybe its my own fault i was abused and battered then ; ) Im with kal on the uneducated children and the dreadful things that happen, but i think you are to!! This poem as you rightly gleaned is a thoughtless celebration of choice and sex being something fun. I am now going to ''think'' about what i post to make sure it is written as well as it can be. I will ''think'' about the power of this piece i have written, although unintentional, i see why it has caused a stir. And now it has stired, i ask isn't that what poetry is sometimes supposed to do? I think i need to rewrite womans lib part as real womans lib celebrates what this poem even more so now embodies much love vicki MADAMF

Vicki, I’ve met a few

Vicki, I've met a few poets who NEVER write poems that are about themselves... and I get that. They're great storytellers and after awhile I, I forget which poem is based on actual experience and which is based on storytelling cause it doen't matter. Please, for all our sake, KEEP WRITING WHATEVER APPEALS TO YOU, story, truth or somewhere in between. You JUST WRITE FOR YOURSELF... how we interpret it, and what we want to make out of it has little or nothing to do with you, when you think about it... it's our OWN AGENDAS, then, if we're honest about it. Of course, Poetry is supposed to stir... if it doesn't either it's bland poetry or it's a hard-headed and/or hard-hearted reader. Love, Anna

Dear Kal

When you decided to take me to task for my comment this morning I was barely awake ... I wake up to even more insults ... you were quiet definately trying to pick a fight lol ... but sadder is the fact you took for granted I had seen this movie and read the book ... I have not read it ... so I have no fucking idea why you exploded at my comment ... 'woman do have the right to choose' oh and your comment down below ... rubbish about survival and education ?? its all about survival and education .... if you cant survive or educate, the cycle perpetuates ... you have no idea what your talking about ... when you have 'educated' yourself come back and try and have another conversatation I have no time for people who run around with blinkers on ... you wear them and only take them off when it suits you now the discussions over as far as I am concerned ... and things are closer than they appear in the mirror ... I dont rely on second hand images to know anything ... and thanks for the heads up on your low opinion of me ... :) Jayne-Chloe

“to the inevitable slew of

"to the inevitable slew of ex-battered poets that seem drawn to share their trauma on Neopoets pages." This is absolutely pathetic Kal. From Lolita to Pollyanna. Thanks for nothing, I had thought better of you, at the moment I'm quite disappointed, should you care to know. ~A

Yes, we’re all victims of

Yes, we're all victims of society, our ethnicity, our religiosity and our upbringing. None of it being given to us or assimilated with or in *perfection*. Then I was wrong in my assessment of your posting/positing that sentence? And you have no further problem of *saving* us poor women who can not speak for ourselves in the present? And you have no problem with any woman not wanting your *help*? And you have no problem with a man who writes songs of various ways a woman is seen and held in a man's eyes? ? ~A

I am simply past giving a fuck ... cause my orginal comment was not directed at you snd I didnt ask to get into a debate with you and made that clear ... but no you were intent on belittling me ... hope it made you feel better fucktard :) Jayne-Chloe Vix I am so sorry for having a go on your poem and I know that it was never meant to cause this fracas .. and this will be my last word ...

17 years Jayne. Tonight i will have a 18 sips of my wine to you. one for each of the years you were in that situation and didn't break and one big one for getting out. I would drink more but i have a three month to look after and don't think its a good mix lol. Your a tough, strong woman from what i can glean not knowing you and i say here is to not being broken. It doesn't matter how educated you are. when you are going through that, the mindset is in such a place that all the education in the world won't help you, It is about spirit. that is why as adults some of us pull through and some of us sadly cannot xx

Isn’t this ironic, Kal?

Isn't this ironic, Kal? Imo, it is better for you to stand up for what men do wrong beginning with the religious persecutions done under *protection*. Leave Lolita alone, whether or not her name is Sharon. Nabokov wrote of taboos in a time when such things were only whispered about. My question is not whether children are or are not sacrosanct (yes they are) but are they sexual beings... years ago most kids played doctor and now the pendulum has swung so far that 5 year olds are accused of sexually harassment and 10 yr olds are jailed. Yes, I agree that many mothers turn a blind eye to their boyfriends or husbands when they should be protecting their children, however, the world out there is a shitty place where parents *sell* their children in one way or another. And the only justice we can do is to speak about children's sexuality, at least when the hormones kick in. And I remember the youngest *child* gave birth at the age of 5. Teach them boundaries. Teach them how to recognize being used as an *object*. Balance is the key in a world that is steadily unbalanced. We are living in an age of sexual slavery and piracy. We are living in an age when the sexual exploits of stars, athletes, politicians are media headlines, are a way of dumbing down the population so no one has to deal with real issues such as poverty, war, etc. There's a healthy median somewhere, we just haven't found it as a species. ~A

You’re being facetious

You're being facetious right now and I won't talk with you because you don't want to see the whole picture. It's why you and Dan had that blowout. It's why you have engendered female anger here... something you were not quite prepared for, eh? For others here. I post this: There is a line between kids being kids, and kids reenacting what they see, are taught. It's how prejudices continue, and how victims become abusers. But not NOT ALL VICTIMS BECOME ABUSERS... so there's something else at play. I for one, will not have any man describing, denying or altering my sense of womanhood ie sexuality. And I will stand my ground for disallowing the perpetuation (stinking thinking) of true criminality/sexual exploitation in or out of the home front, which is based solely on INTENT, be it overt or covert, acknowledged or stemming from ignorance. So be it. Nor am I afraid to say my peace. ~A

And yes Kal. We all mirror

And yes Kal. We all mirror one another. But don't forget mirrors always give a distorted image....based on the mirror of one's own perception. Few of us are without blind spots which occlude *true vision*. Did you know a true mirror was available? My oh my

Yep yep yep. I see one and only one big outburst here, sorry Kal, it is you. I neither have read or seen this Lolita film book, whatever, but if I had and I did not like the preview or whatever, i would decline both book and film. You have me wondering though, what are you putting into your childs head, and the way you have above attacked, not commented, these woman, and maybe many more, but the worst has come out in you. You do have a very strong view on a lot of things you class as immoral, so how do you know about the story of Lolita unless you read or saw. Now that is odd, why would a grown man want to know the story. I will have to check it out and see for myself, but if it is that bad, I might leave it. You can not sweep things under the carpet and as for Vickis poem, If she has written about her own freedom of speech and sex, so what. You know I consider you all my friends and if I see any of you unjustly critisized I do feel obliged to say something. You, Kal, went a little too far. Please reread all that has been batted across the board, and as for naming a child Lolita, so, pretty name. A friend of my daughters comes here, could not get a better kid. She is sweet, and yes at her fine age of 20, pure. I wont go on but I am being nice, I could say a hell of a lot more. Jayne is my friend and you have no right to speak such rot to her, or Anna, These are two women that are respected and deserve to be spoken to, not bitten at. As for the poem, I must be mad, I enjoyed this creative write, hear, hear Vicki. I feel Kal, you have no respect for women the way you feel it is your given right to say what oyu say, weird. Sorry, but only dirty old men vist the bookstore and the movies, when there is something sexually controversial on. Boy oh boy, I am the first person to defend the rights of kids, but hey, this after all is only a poem. What did you do after you read or saw Lolita? As much as this. Sorry again, treat with respect. Lyz.
