AT JUFFURE

AT JUFFURE   At Juffure, thousands throng in To bear witnesses to the past When captured men were sold Into slavery, far across the sea To a land where men were free   Pictures of people are pasted At the museum of antiquities Of great men who descended From the era of the sold away To become notable personages   A space is left blank on the board Amongst the freed descendants For a young new king to dwell in His father was a true son of the soil And knew not the pain of slavery   At Juffure, blank hope is reborn In a gone astray sentimental blues A son of this continent has come To banish our misfortunes and woes But these may not happen in our time

So very happy to see you

So very happy to see you again... read your astounding words. "But these may not happen in our time." Were that it were not so. Blessings, Anna Don’t let your victories go to your head, or your failures go to your heart.

Thank you very much

I am pleased you like it. Juffure is a small village in the Gambia. Alex Harley, 'Roots' captures some of the unforgettable scenes in history. Do you know our young new King? Best wishes. T.

I'm curious T, is this a good source of information? http://www.gambianow.com/news/ Or is it like our local paper... lacking in non-biased dissemination of information? I have to profess my ignorance here... It seems you speak of King and I find a President? ~A

Yes,

The information is true. At Juffure, there is a huge statue of a man's figure with arms outstretched, with broken chains and inscriptions, 'Never Again'. This figure's head is the globe of the world. Slaves were freed here and the story has it that the central figure in Alex Haley's book 'Roots' was exported from the nearby James Island. His relations are still alive. You will enjoy a trip to the Gambia, it is a tourist delight. The young new king is a president, but not of the Gambia. You have to make a guess. He is a world figure. Thank you for the time and for the interest. T.

Never Again

Wonderful, sad then hope. You should write a book. Or be a Journo. You capture a story well and put it into words magnificently. Lyz. XX

I struggle...

I struggle with words, just that I am a story teller and my attempt to write a novel is a tedious one. English is my second language and I am not sure I am very good at it. Thank you for the compliment, may be I should start with short stories first. Best wishes. T.
