Aide to a Flailing Memory
In particular calligraphy,
Free from smudges and set petite.
Rest names, places and memories.
The book of the concluding days.
The yellowed and frail pages,
Entrusted
With tales of the decades.
The names mostly monikers of the deceased
And those who have led meandering pathways.
The years chained in the past
Have obscured existence… Forever.
I pledged not to forget you.
I've held you out of harm's way
In my flailing memory.
I want to remember everything
Prior to an expanse obscuring a backward glance,
So stifling the clamor of distraction,
I write your name
In particular calligraphy,
Free from smudges and set petite
Although far from deceased
You are someone
That I cannot let myself forget.
