The Changing of the Guard

I must confess, I had hoped for the best
when this new entity had taken over,

and it wasn't only myself
because, admit it.....we ALL openly embraced this beast !

This last one certainly took it's toll on our earth,
simply by surviving it's own birth.

As subtle as a bubble,
yet, as gentle as the breeze can undress the trees.....it has done as it's pleased.

It has raped and pillaged,
in many an unfortunate village;

it even has claimed many by death,
while sharing with others a whisper of life's breath.

Things that surprisingly take you by "storm",
CAN keep you warm;

and I am finding solace in it's own demise,
yes, thank god it's almost over !

Just take a look over your shoulder,
for soon.....for that last memorable time,

the clock will strike, twelve.....
and we will delve.....into yet another realm of possibilities.

Are there promises it must breach ?
Or are there difficult lessons it must teach ?

We'll just have to wait and see,
what's to come and what's to be;

but, I know this much is, true.....
as for this ogre.....this, "keeper of the gate", his life is OVER !

The next one takes the helm, tonight.....
and the changing of the guard, is called....."new year's".....yes, finally.....it's time !

Dear Doc

A brilliant write, reworked or not. I am slowly getting back into it and I hope you and yours have had a great xmas and new year. Love the new pic and your dear cat looks like they love the camera,lol. And the name is?, male or female? Now I hope this poem comes to fruition with you, in the making of a new year, because I must have that great personality of yours splashed across my screen again. This is like a resolution write, out with the old and in with the new. you have worded this brilliantly and I know the feeling. I wish with all my might that we all have a better year and many more to follow. You write on Dear Doc. Love Lyz. XX

Thanks, so much....

...Lyz...and Happy Holidays to you and yours, too. I really do appreciate your comments. As far as the cat in the picture, He's a male cat...one year old...and his name is, "Eightball Johnson". When he was a kitten, he climbed up a raincoat in the closet...and was playing with a purse strap that was hanging...and he hung himself! After about 13 minutes, I was ready to give up on the CPR...when I rubbed my thumb against his little adam's apple.....and he swallowed, and came back to life! It was really a "trip"! Anyway, I named him, "Eightball" because he doesn't have nine lives left, anymore. The name, "Johnson" just sort of fit as a surname. I guess it sounded like an old "bluesman's" name, to me.Lol! There IS a poem called, "Eightball Hardluck Johnson" in my collection. If you'd like to check it out, it's nearly half way down my 6th page of poems, on this site. Thanks again, for reading and commenting ! "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

Dear Doc

That is amazing. I will look for the poem. Dear Eightball, he is in great hands with you. Has it affected him, like fear of raincoats cupboards etc? and does he like music and the blues, lol, only because of his name sake, lol. Love Lyz. XX

I missed many poems over the

I missed many poems over the holidays. Pleased to find this one. I, too am happy to have given 2009 the boot. Hopefully 2010 will not be a mirror image. But at least we're still standing and to the best of my recollection, I'm staying put. lol. ~Anna
