Wishful Thoughts

Fragrance of wild honeysuckle
teases me awake from dream
and I am imprisoned once again
in this aging shell of flesh

I rise gingerly from my bed
and stumble towards my morning's need
afterwards, sadly flushing away
the nectar imbibed in night's adventures

Gone is the dragon I slew,
the comrades I feasted with,
and the enchantress that embraced me
is but a fading vision of myopic eyes

What can this day grant me
that I did not glean threefold from sleep?
only weariness, tedium, and an
emptiness of soul too deep to fill

The waking world is true nightmare
slowly gnawing away one's will
and forcing once strong passion
into a dungeon of despair

My fevered prayer is only this,
to walk again beside a sea
where mermaids dance with fishes
and deeply breath of sweet, eternal youth

Dear Lonnie,

I do not often visit your pages, as I have always felt that we are not exactly favouring the same style, but when I do, your craftsmanship always deeply impresses me and your words never fail to move me. And now, I realize that our styles really are not as different as I thought. I adore this poem, it speaks of a deep yearning in your soul, and I absolutely love the imagery (big fantasy fan). I hope that the new year will bring more mutual visits. Yours, ~Nina

Thank you very much, Nina!

It was beginning to look like this one was heading for the Lonely List until you left your most welcome comments! As far as differing styles go, I know I tend to use more Rhyme and meter than most, but it seems to work better for me! I read all styles of poetry, and try to find something redeeming in each poem! Thanks again for stopping by and leaving a kind thought!

jeez mate, I have been here, in my darkest times.

That youthful feeling is recoverable. Trust me, my nature IS irrepressible and so is yours. Like Nina I have shied away at times from different styles but you speak to me here heart to heart. Despite our different histories, values and beliefs we are brother poets as you have so timely reminded me. Your craft is excellent and you know I always admire that. In fact, strangely, I can find nothing to fault or crit here. Cheers, Jess, reprehensibly irrepressible

This is so beautiful and dreamy one can get lost in your images. But alas our youth we cannot retrieve can we and so we dream. I do like this one Chrys
