breathing gods

I often wonder where
people who place their lives
in the shallow palms
of gods who breath
find hope.

The waking of the powerless
lends beauty to our
sun-drenched tomorrows
yet they wake and forget
the exact same
sun-drenched yesterdays
that failed to dry tears,
silence car alarms,
allay not-so-dormant fears,
or sate bloated bellies.

I never feared,
you would be one
such breathing god.
I placed you as high
as my arms could reach
and you kept me mum
with sweet-soft lullabies.
I feel so old now
like a child lost to age
and disappointment.
It seems, my breathing god,
your powers faded
with my youth:
my eyes grew
accustomed to the truth.
The spell is broken now
dear breathing god,
The cord of birth
that held me to you
stretches tight and thin.

Lives placed in the shallow
palms of breathing gods
are laced with
the same tint
of bitterness,
so like a lamb
trailing the path
of a doomed flock
I too shall hope,
though never in gods
sown with the same thread
of fallibility and fallacy.

Wow Jozi!

Look at you now!!! This is absolutely fabulous! The cord of birth that held me to you stretches tight and thin. ( but suggests it is not yet broken!) Watch out for the 2nd SPOTLIGHT! I'm sure it won't be long in coming! Well done - you make me proud (another South African!) Bonitaj

Very powerful, I enjoyed the read. I have had my fair share of disillusionment; disappointment and shattered dreams so I know where you are coming from. Seasons greetings Baz

To have a voice you must

To have a voice you must learn to hear, and to learn to hear, you must learn to listen. One thing you listen for is every word that does not fulfil the vision you imagine. These are clouds. I often wonder where ....................... Is the poem about YOU and your thoughts? people who place their lives in the shallow palms of gods who breath find hope. In the shallow palm of a God breathing People find hope .....................I do this to show you that when you focus light you can make a fire. When the clouds cover the sun there will be no fire

No, there is no more meaning

No, there is no more meaning then when you wrote it. The clouds are gone thats all. Take this to heart, and light the fires of the AFRIKANNER, AND THE WORLD, KOKI. B

and I think I shall return again

many times to this poem! It is more than a child/parent disillusionment - it is universal. Father son, brother/brother/ lover/lover. It is vast in it's capturing of enlightenment through the loss of naievity! and it is infused with a mellow sadness that is palbable! Thank you once again! and please continue to offer us these gems into the New Year!! Bonita j
