As the End Approaches

(Poem writen by a friend, Pete Sierra)

Next year, the first decade of the 3rd millenium
comes to its end, and the signs are ominous:
Chicken livers that look like skulls, flocks
of black birds wheeling like tornadoes in the sky,
tea leaves floating counter-clockwise, they all
portend the end of the world. It doesn't
take me by surprise. I only have one question:

What took us this long?

Don't think me ungrateful, I appreciate all the
hard work everyone has done polluting air and
sea, cutting trees, heaping garbage, and breeding
like mad, and all this around the clock for years
on end. Good work! Well done! I have no complaint,
except regarding the hypocrisy of pretending to save
what you are trying to kill. It's like a murderer
giving mouth to mouth to the victim he is strangling.

Come on! Be honest for once. Admit it! We're doing
our best to wreck this place. If someone asked me to
give a good definition for mankind, I would say: It's
the only animal that doesn't really know what it wants.

How true

This poem brings it home. Good on your friend. Scary thoughts, but we do have to admit playing a part in our own demise. Love Lyz. XX
