Don’t forget to feed your soul (Making our own history)
I forgot to make some time for me
Forgot I was making my own history
I’ve been keeping it all afloat
Putting the patches on the boat
Sailing these seas I’ve never seen
Trying to map out this bewildered scene
There was that sobering remark
A flash of rainbow in the dark
She said “did you make some time for you?”
Suddenly familiar light came shaft like, shining through
I’d be the first to insist such goodness for another
Nuture self - friend/sister/mother
I haven’t been such a good friend to myself
Sorting my life out from this cluttered shelf
I’m climbing down now, among the disarray
A little shuffle dancing as I pick my way
Too busy to question this before
Watching the waves of living from the shore
I’m getting back in the water honey
Set the worries with the chores and money
What is living for?
Fill it sweetly and then fill it more
Drink it deeply and then find the things
That fill the well again and give you wings
So she casually reminded me
I was weighted down too low to be free
She said, “you need to get your story told”
Someone just might bring it to the fold
The place to make a difference here
In a world where so much feels unclear
I used to think my story never mattered
Till I saw it soothe a life, so shattered
If I think another life is worthy to be known
Then I must value thus my own
She said, “keep your words from fading
Shine them brightly through the life you’re wading"
I find wisdom in the simple spaces
Joy among these well known faces
Here I am, I forgot to see
The things that light me up, and strengthen me
Words and images weave my daily frame
And never show a scene the same
Thank you for the draught of clarity
Slowed descent to dull disparity
I’ll tell my story after all
It might just happen that the message falls
To anyone who might forget
That in the tangled daily ‘sort and set’
Make some time to feed your soul
Without it we become less whole
I forgot to make some time for me
Essential for good history
Forgot I was making my own history
I’ve been keeping it all afloat
Putting the patches on the boat
Sailing these seas I’ve never seen
Trying to map out this bewildered scene
