Santa C. (Just having a bit of fun, see if you can spot the joke!)

Reindeer pull a fat man in a sleigh across the winter skyAt night, he alights on our roof and squeezesThrough our narrow chimney - what a trick! He eats some biscuits and drinks some milkEver the fairyman, the white-bearded gourmetRotund and happily muttering his "HoHo!" No one sees him, he is a secretive gift bearerOr does he blend with his impersonatorsThose red-cloaked seducers invented by Coca Cola? Most children send letters to himEagerly relating their most secret wishesThe North Pole is where he lives He visits every child around the globeIn just one night - again, what a trick!Never tiring of biscuits or milk, of course Keeper of secrets, and the world's biggest toy manufacturerSanta C.

Hi Huey,

it's a "trick" poem ;) I like hiding little messages in my poems. Maybe you would care to read it again and try to find out about the "trick"? Yours, ~Nina

Good one Nina!

I enjoyed it and you are correct on Coca Cola, but they did have a man to VERY loosly model him on. *L* Did you know that Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was invented by a man who worked for Montgomery Ward? Respectfully, Rett: “Anyone who sacrifices liberty for security deserves neither.” Benjamin Franklin

Maybe,

just maybe I'll get in the mood soon. This is the second time tonight something Christmasy made me smile. It was an e-card Christmas card designed by Ashland college. Someone tell me how to forward here, and I'll send it along. Your little spoof on the jolly old fat santa was fun. I am quite sure it was the coca cola that did it (got him fat, that is), but the milk and biscuits helped too; and there is probably a number of toys bearing a coke logo or shaped like a bottle in his bag. Always, Deelilah

Hi Dee,

yes, that darn old Coca Cola does go straight to the hips, doesn't it? Thanks for dropping by and making me smile. Yours, ~Nina

Humm Nina

not sure which Santa you've had coming down your chimney (if you have one of course....even bigger trick when he comes down one that doesn't exist) but the one I know would consider it a poor joke to find only milk and biscuits as a reward for performing the miraculous. A glass or port and a mince pie would seem more fitting (dont worry about drink driving...he gave up the reins to one of his helpers years ago so he could party all night on Christmas Eve!). Oh and a carrot and glass of mulled wine for Rudolf...the latter to keep his nose red naturally. As for Coca-Cola I hate the stuff. Glad to see you are bring us some Christmas thoughts. Ho Ho. Keith

Well, I'll be darned, it must be a British Santa, Keith!

Glad to hear that he is not drinking and driving, can you imagine the havoc he would wreak in the sky, especially nowadays, with all the air traffic? (Wich reminds me of Winnie the Witch, I've been reading "Winnie flies again" with my daughter. Hilarious story, and even more hilarious illustrations.) Yours, ~Nina

Oh oh! Is anyone in the mood?

Not I, Anna, too much work to do before I can even begin to think of Christmas gifts and stuff... Glad you enjoyed :) Yours, ~Nina

Enter the Dragon - lady! Seasonal salutations to Solingen in Dcembeer (?) Anyway, Rudolph (the communist) and Blitzen (the capitalist) were having an argument about the weather that Christmas Eve. Rudolph said it was raining and Blitzen said it was sleet. The argument was settled by Donner, who told Blitzen to shut up, saying.... "No point in arguing with him, everyone knows; RUDOLPH THE RED KNOWS RAIN, DEAR" Bah, Humbug Ian P.S.Liked the acrostic

Rain, dear!

Hilarious, Ian! Love your "Bah, Humbug", by the way - tempted to do another acrostic... Sleet... I remember a line from a poem that says (roughly paraphrased) "a poet is a person who knows the meaning of words like sleet"... Yours, ~Nina

Have yourselves a merry little Christmas...Santa C. et al

and this certainly has added to the good spirits,,,or at least tried to lift those of them that needed a knee up! ;) Liked the poem. Incidentally, it might interest you to know that England, Germany and Holland have the best "Christmacy" (new word?) vibe of all the European countries. I must say I'm definately IN THE MOOD this year and it's been a long time coming! Enjoy with you and yours! Boni

Boni,

I am laughing out loud about your "Christmacy" comment. In fact, I have been thinking of a similar neologism. In German, we can say "es weihnachtet", wouldn't it be lovely to be able to say "it's christmassing"? (Had to help my daughter with a Christmas poem for school yesterday, so my mind was suddenly filled with German Christmas words.) Glad to see that someone is in the mood after all :) Yours, ~Nina
