Conscience #4
Speak to me of conscience my Darling.
Tell me,
how does the grass grow in the fields
of our Lord, why is there desert with
no oasis for the weary vagabond?
And the budding
leaf, does it sorrow for its fallen
brothers and sisters?
From where comes the comet to frighten
a sleeping child? Does the cardinal bring
a song of redemption to the silence?
My craft does not founder,
the wind does not blow,
the forbidden fruit is a serpent's dream
and I alone choose
the colours of the night.
Tell me,
how does the grass grow in the fields
of our Lord, why is there desert with
no oasis for the weary vagabond?
And the budding
leaf, does it sorrow for its fallen
brothers and sisters?
From where comes the comet to frighten
a sleeping child? Does the cardinal bring
a song of redemption to the silence?
My craft does not founder,
the wind does not blow,
the forbidden fruit is a serpent's dream
and I alone choose
the colours of the night.
