a breath of winter
a mirrored lake surrounded by sparkling icicles everywhere,
branches creaking under a heavy blanket of virgin snow.
the sun is showing off the beauty of the season.
slushy roads are leading into the lacy fog
with winter babies along the paths
trying to get some hidden greens to eat.
cats are huddled by the fire
hot chocolate is steaming in a mug
and a warm wrap's keeping you snug.
a star's glowing from afar
ornaments are hanging from a tree
with milk and cookies underneath.
footprints are going nowhere,
snowflakes are landing on a tongue.
a snowman is keeping guard on a frozen lawn
where shivering children slide down the hills.
a red bird is twittering on a lonely branch
bright against the white canvas.
this is a season of glorious beauty,
of warm hearts
and of smiles with no end.
