a breath of winter

a mirrored lake surrounded by sparkling icicles everywhere, branches creaking under a heavy blanket of virgin snow. the sun is showing off the beauty of the season. slushy roads are leading into the lacy fog with winter babies along the paths trying to get some hidden greens to eat. cats are huddled by the fire hot chocolate is steaming in a mug and a warm wrap's keeping you snug. a star's glowing from afar ornaments are hanging from a tree with milk and cookies underneath. footprints are going nowhere, snowflakes are landing on a tongue. a snowman is keeping guard on a frozen lawn where shivering children slide down the hills. a red bird is twittering on a lonely branch bright against the white canvas. this is a season of glorious beauty, of warm hearts and of smiles with no end.

big and little stomachs

big and little stomachs growl, no cookies, no milk, no warm fires, no cats to cradle and nothing to eat, not even a meager slice from a loaf of the stalest bread, or crumbs from a delicious pie in this wide and wonderful world where the deer and the antelope play, the cardinal and the holly dance, we mustn't forget the jungles of wise old men's folly, places of war and hate, of rape, of virgin's work and where no innocent can play here and there are no snowmen, no snowflake has ever been seen, and yet there is hope in the night star, shining in a Bethlehem's morning bright. Lovely post-card greeting. Thank you and welcome to Neopoet. ~A "...when it agrees with reason and it will benefit one and all, then accept it and live by it." ~ Buddha

Great

Great scene you set, I was captivated by the approach into the poem. Setting a picture with color, movement, emotions of warmth and love. I love the cardinal, red against the white. A poem I would like to revisit, mental vacation. Nice. raskin
