Pitiful Postulants

Celluloid statues that stand in the rain
hiding the tears in their eyes,
Christmas-Card people who cannot refrain
from keeping their thoughts in disguise

Slaves of the future who long to be free
shackled by chains of today,
apple-pie heros with no destiny
posing for window display

Jaded creations of souls yet unborn
mingling passion with pain,
weeping and moaning and acting forlorn
yet begging to do it again

Featureless faces with fairy-tale minds
dancing to songs of despair,
Puritan paupers still hoping to find
crosses of hatred to bear

Succulent sinners so desperate to pray
shriek as they fall to their knees,
feeling the wrath of a Godling at play
dying, his lust to appease
