Walkabout

Taking time to "Walkabout"
To cleanse my brain...
I tread paths I haven't trod in years
Those footprints I left so long ago
Sometimes disappear... Under the ones others have left
In some places, they just fade away
Scoured by the wind-blown sands of time
Here at the cross-roads, I hesitate
Which way?
There are new horizons, skies I haven't seen before
Shall I take the easy path, or pant my way over the next rise?
Up or down, side to side
It reminds me of 'Rugby'
I'd say, "Too far"... and he would range from side to side
Until I got closer... then off he would go... exploring again
Damn! I miss him!
Here and there, forward and back
Tired of the same-old, same-old
But wishing for days gone by
Looking ahead to find...
What is that glimmer? That light over there
Beautiful colors, calling my eye
Off I go, pushing through the brush
Slogging across muddy fields
New thoughts prodding me on
I keep going...

Finding greener pastures, on the other side of the fence
Is hard
It looks different from here

Night is coming, the wind is cold
I am hungry, I want my bed

"Walking-about" is fine
But I think..."Home is where the heart is"

Dear Gee

Exhilarating and very well written. Is Rugby a mate of times gone by? If he read this he would smile. It is a walkabout of adventure and I like you, think home is where the heart is. Before I go, this is written really well and you oughta be proud of this write. Love to all, Lyz. XX

Walkabout...

Rugby was a dog. A companion for thirteen years. When we used to go for our walks, if I felt he was getting too far ahead, I would say: "Too far, too far! And he would range from side to side, always sniffing, never stopping, until I got closer. Then he would resume his forward motion. I tried to imagine what it must be like to go for a 'walkabout'. This is what I came up with. Higgest bugs, ~ Gee

How lovely.

Rugby sounds more of a mate to me. I think any walkabout would have been a joy with your dear Rugby by your side, or ahead, lol, the poem is just great and our memories seem to bring out the best of us when we write a part of them when creating, you have created a wonderful poem and I enjoyed reading it. I will catch up on more of your writes soon, I am trying to catch up. It is going to take a while this time but it is worth it. I think you have been writing some real gems of late, the ones I have had time to read any way, so I expect nothing less of what I will find when I finally get there, lol. Love and well done. Lyz. XX

Rugby was ...

A mate. My friends all loved him and the feeling was mutual. I could go on for some time with stories about him and the times we spent together. He and I started our walks early in his life, and there were times we had as many as four or five other people and another dog with us. We used to go to one of a few different places, and then we always stopped at Burger King afterwards, He liked his burgers plain, but would glady accept any leftovers from anyone else's meal. When we were in the car, he barked incessently. I simply could not break him of barking in the car. There was only one time he stopped barking, and that was when we pulled up to the order area at the BK. The first time we went, he shut up and listened to the car ahead of us order. When I pulled ahead, the voice asked, "May I take your order please? He started barking right at the speaker like he was ordering. I told him to shut up, that the girl didn't understand dog, and if he wasn't quiet, he wouldn't get anything. All the help inside LTAO! Then I ordered, and he got his burger. Well, next time we went, when I pulled up to the speaker, and they asked for my order, he shut up right away, and didn't resume barking until we were on the way out of the lot! Yes, he was a mate! Sorry I went on so, but ya know....Thanks for the high praise, ~ Gee

I enjoyed this memory of Rugby.

I can understand how you feel. A part of the family. Dear Rugby, fancy liking Burger King, lol. I can imagine him doing all you have written and I am so smiling while rereading and writing. Our dog Rebel also knows BK and Maccas, lol, cheese burger and an icecream cone, then a run on the beach. He sometimes has playdates too. Yep. Staffie cross Cocker Spaniel, 2 years this December, still in puppy mode and looks like a black Lab pup but if you look real close in the sun, he has brown under his coat. What breed was Rugby? He sounds a clever boy. I can see you miss him, hard hey. And do not apologize for going on, I love hearing or should I say reading, your words, be it memories or make believe. I find it all interesting. I have had dogs before but this one is like Rugby, part human, lol. You should write more about him, I enjoyed reading about your mate. A gentle soul with a trace of his owner. A true comic. You were lucky to share all those years with him. And how quick in learning, dont bark, there is a treat at the end of this drive through, clever. Love it. Gee, I am so glad you told me about him, he was a beauty for sure. Thank you dear man for sharing. Love to you and the family. From me and mine. XX

Rugby...

Rugby was Belgian-shepard and black Lab. He looked all Shepard, except his nose was a little more like a Lab. Everything I have ever written about him is true. He was indeed very smart. The first poem I ever posted here was about him. All my dogs have been pretty smart, but he was the smartest. All my dog friends, [there are many] respond to me, differently than they do to other people, because I treat them as friends. I usually carry a box of doggy treats in my car, and they look for them when I come around. I also have some in my taxi-bag, and when there is a passenger that has a dog, the dispatcher will send me, if I am available. Some customers ask for me, and are disappointed to learn I am only driving two times a week now. Friday nights and Sunday during the day. I will write some more about Rugby's adventures, and maybe make a story of the life he shared with me. Thanks so much for your interest, and Our's to Your's, ~ Gee

Dear Gee

Thank you, you are a very special man, you know that? I love shepards and labs. My daughter in law owns a lab, we used to own Sheperds and our little mixed breed has been mistaken for a Lab pup, he, Rebel, is now 2. I would love to hear more of Rugbys adventures. All special memories, I love them. Thank you again and lots of love to you. Lyz. XX

"Walkabout"

I thought it also was when a man needed a vacation, he would go tell his boss, "I go walkabout Boss". Then when he felt properly refreshed, he would return. My heart is home as it should be. Sometimes though, I do need a day away, just to 'walkabout' to see old friends or just get some scenery in my eyes. Thank you for the comments and the information. Higger bugs, and lotsa love, Gee
