Layli's Song (Her Demon Love):

Some have deemed my soul unworthy
Of a love which shatters understanding
For everything he touches shimmers
Through reality
In his madness there is a gifted touch
His being now a beast is such
He lays beside the lion as gentle as the lamb
It was my sin that put him there
Beyond the centuried world of man

They doubt my troth I love him
I die at the sight of him
That I have slain love itself for the sake of society
Winged vessels are his messengers
They come to me by night
Impart to me his poetry
Which sets my soul to flight

I will not wear my hair in braids
I will not let him see me
Because I know it kills him
So my heart must go on deceived be
And I will die alone in time
His body will rest next to mine
Our souls rejoicing song will chime
And we shall then together be...

you were there?

As if you traveled in time and witnessed their story, life! You give layla the voice no one heard through history! perhaps his insanity numbed some of his pain, but she had to suffer for both of them...or at least that what i think. You must be very proud of this one...very well expressed...thank you Dalton

well it’s like the way i

well it's like the way i always see the story of Adam and Eve. They were innocent before eating of the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. so how can one sin if one knows not good or evil. one is ostensibly naked without this knowledge, perhaps this is why upon feasting upon the fruit they covered themselves. a metaphorical way of saying this. thankyou for your interest in my little poems. Thank you sweet Mona

Thankyou sweet Mona, I write some poems on Arabic themes, like the story of Majnun and Layli, there are somethings I am ignorant of, like social behaviour to certain things. I one might react from your background. I am in love with their story, and it is a true story, retold for many thousand years. The most famoous being Nizami Ganjavi writing one thousand years after the poets death. I am so happy that you like this poem. Reading a book called: "Modern Arabic Short Stories - A Bilngual Reader" Edited by "Ronak Husni" and "Daniel L. Newman" might help with your learning English. I've only read the one story: "A Lonely Woman" I won't tell you what it is about I don't want to spoil the surprise. It has pages in Arabic and English side byy side. john
