It was you I found
Pick them up and feel them
smooth and matt and round
roll them in your hand
rub them on your cheek
then let them speak
what do they tell each one
of how once, long ago
they were the sun or moon,
they have been hot
so hot as hottest hot
then cooled down by the ice
shaped by others
yes their brothers
water weathered
rubbed and smoothed
in mud
roamed from mountain tops
to deep valleys in the sea
and now they lie in mornings dew
waiting there for you to find
oh lovely smooth matt round
little grey stone, you're mine.
I found you
and bound you with a cloth
my pocket handkerchief
all striped and old like you
its seen better days
when new
yet serves its purpose still
as folded in my fond embrace
is you
my little stone
you ride my pocket close to me
and when my troubled mind insists
I bring you out
you give me solace, permanence
solid, constant, round,
my worries soon can dissipate
as fondled
your profound simplicity
bring me such felicity
such calm
I hold you in my palm,
you little weight
your total innocence
you expound
and I am sweetly mesmerised
from all thoughts negative
it was YOU I found.
