Time for Chicken and Gravy and Church

Cruising down the highway like an old song
on Sunday afternoon and Monday too—
few notes to regret, try to do no wrong;
stay out of their way; be nobody’s fool.
I’m hopping on the slow train to the past
when there was time for chicken and gravy
and church; the hot days of summer would last,
and folks taught children about bravery.
I am going to climb Jacob’s ladder,
float up and down with heavenly angels.
Presidents’ programs will no longer matter;
I’ll be free at last from worldly angles.
I will make the journey, dance, leap, and fly,
grand adventure—all this  before I die.

Hi there Jayne

I am so glad to be back online and visiting with you and others. I pray all is well. When I first started this poetry thing, sonnets were what I mostly did. I am glad you liked it. I am curious, however, in what way you found it different. I suffer from eclecticness in just about everything I do---. Always, Deelilah

I wanted to leave a comment

I wanted to leave a comment yesterday, but it's today now, and D... I love your poem. Well done! Brava! p.s. always take the scenic path ;-) ~A "...when it agrees with reason and it will benefit one and all, then accept it and live by it." ~ Buddha

Thank you, Kailashana

I am glad you liked it. I do love the scenic path. And I like your Buddha saying. A lot of my stuff is scenic and a lot is about some path or another (that is, if I'm not on some political rant). Love hearing from you. Thanks for the high five. Always, Deelilah

Hi Lyz

It's so nice to come back after a little time off and see your pretty face. I am so enchanted by your picture. I have a unicorn in a youth fantasy novel I'm writing. His name is Lance and his owner is an angel (for real) named Saige. This picture couldn't describe them better. I am glad you liked the poem. Talk to you soon. Always, Deelilah

Hello dear girl

What a lovely reply. It is nice to see your pretty face too, and those sexy legs, whoohoo, lol. How is ya? Like you I have been away a little while. How is Saige (Beautiful name) and Lance, also the novel, going? All on the ball I hope. I did tell you that you can get the pic from Market stalls, shops etc. I have had it forever but I also see them around occasionally. I am sure that they are world wide, we get a lot of posters etc from the US in our stores. This is already mounted or I would have sent it to you. If I see any, I will enquire.. Love from Lyz, XX

Hey

Just found some time to catch up... ...and here I find another of Deelilah's diamonds glittering on my screen. I love the way you put words together, soft and deep and bright. I would critique...but how? There isn't anything wrong. Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race

Wow

Jim, diamonds, glittering---soft and deep and bright? What a nice review. I am so glad you liked this. Long time no talk to. Been to Chicago several times in the last few months. If we didn't have all family in Spokane/Seattle area, we would give the DeKalb in West Chicago or Cordova, Il, down on the river a whirl. It is so pretty sometimes, really nice vibes. I love it, also all the little towns on the side roads. Yours, Deelilah
