Oh Christmas

oh Christmas

how  good  you are

you come  along

just once a year

and  when you come

you bring  a  joyfulness

 to one and all

oh Christmas

you make our children

so happy with excitement

because

 you bring  to  them

the magic

of  father Christmas

oh Christmas

you give to us

this wonderful time

a time that we share

 with each other

Lovely

This is a beautiful poem and yes once a year but celebration forever. Spending time with family and friends, time well spent and priceless. Merry Christmas to you and yours. magics02

I guess I am the ghost of Christmas past...

coming so very late to this. Hello Karen, I see you have got conflicting comments on this one. One of the reasons might be that - as I happen to know - magics and weirdelf stand on opposite sides when it comes to the meaning of Christmas. But I think there is another reason for Jess' comment, and I must say that I cannot help but seconding his opinion: What your poem lacks is some imagery. What does Christmas smell like? What does it look like? Which are the things you associate with Christmas? Please make a list of all these things, a good method is to set yourself a time limit and just keep writing down everything that comes to mind. E.g. my Christmas list would read like this: Christmas snow is in the air cinnamon and vanilla red and gold candles beeswax the days are short the nights are long secrecy presents stowed away have I thought of all my loved ones? pine and mistletoe etc... Just go on and on for 10 minutes, you'll be surprised at how much you have in your head. Then, it's only a matter of sorting the thoughts and incorporating them into this write.Hope that helps... Yours, ~Nina

no oppostie sides

Karen When I read your poem I associated Christmas meaning the only way I feel. Yes not all may feel the same way as myself. Christmas is a special time of year in my heart and soul, just having my whole family together once again as mom and dad have health issues. My son was born on Christmas Eve and he is special to me. Being together all of us the circle of family and friends and the love we have for each other means more than gifts, etc. It is not about gifts and food it is about love and peace and time spent with loved ones and yes the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. My comments were genuine and from the heart and I loved this poem. Elf and I do not stand on opposite sides (I dont think so) as he has his love the same as myself so we share the same.... the most important aspect of the poem and I believe that is love and peace. Nina has some good ideas about the list of words, and sometimes I do just that same thing. Most of the time my poems just come out of mind and heart, Happy New Year Karen magics02
