CARRICK ON SHANNON (my home town)

Take a journey
a boat ride with me
to the gateway of the
Shannon erne we`ll
see.

the swans serene
and the bull rush
green where many
a fisherman's dream
has been .

From the banks of the
river Shannon which
grew from an ancient
stronghold of the
o` Rourke's .

named a borough since
1607, leitrim`s pride
known to many famed
far and wide

an old stone bridge crossing
the county divide, four arch
wide which lays beside the
last remains of the castle ruins.

A famine grave yard

the Costello chapel  where
eternal love is locally known

carrick on Shannon where
my heart resides.

lovely, show us your country via your heart.

& now I am first for you, what a pleasure after repairing my write at your prompting, to find this lovely write. I am loving this wonderful picture you have painted in such sentimental warmth & solid imagery. I can almost feel the stones of the structures decribed here... More of this please! I have one small consideration, ignore at your whim... I read the first lines & wanted to remove the "on"... though I know you have denied the comma's & the capitals, (which I missed in truth, but can understand the omission), just a thought. Take a journey, a boat ride with me to the gateway of the Shannon erne we`ll see. I was offered a scholarship to study Gaelic song in Ireland some years ago, I didn't go because I felt my son's father would cause trouble.. I have few regrets, but that is one. Please do paint more of these wonderful word paintings, lovely, show us your country via your heart. Cheers Anni~ "When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace". H.H. the Dalai Lama

Dear Enda

I know of what you have written, yes, and I feel the breeze on my face. I did enjoy this, Carrick on Shannon, filled with past histories and yet still so much to discover. I am impressed. As Cloudthings has suggested, more please. From some of the things you have told me you could write at least 2 more on these interesting facts from home. I cannot rave enough about this, I am pleased I popped back for this wonderful tour along the path of your gateway. Well done. I will wait with baited breath for a sequel to this, about the castle and whats beneath the floor. Now the pressure is on, lol, Love to you from me. XX

Historic, Geographical, and

Historic, Geographical, and personal. Well done. We know what the place means to you. But what do you mean to the place. Are you a swan? The bridge of four arches? The Shannon? I am sorry my friend ,but I want to see YOU in all these things. And the fishermans dreams. Become what you write. You are at the door. The water of the Shannon is your blood. Someday, if the lord is kind in days. You and I will sit with glasses between us and worlds. Now I want to see the Shannon with my Own eyes, and so you have changed the world. For better or worse.
