Colored Crayons

The Desert Rose is out and about
li'l Ruben's in every mix,
the couple across can't buy charcoal
so, they bar-b-que by using sticks.

Stormy stays a ways away
after being yelled at by Dan,
Teresa caught it, just as well
guess that proves that he's a "man".

Youngsters running through the street,
what will they get into ?
The devil's workshop is idle hands
because there's not a lot to do.

The Wooden Barrel liquor store
will never, ever get mobbed...
their prices are just too damned high
that's why they're continually robbed !

This guy that owns the tire shop
is a guy I think is neat,
he gives the older boys chores to learn
so their family can afford to eat.

Children end up as latch-key kids
they think they're really cool,
but, while their parents all go to work
they're dropping out of school.

Many families are losing their houses
because the mom or dad's a jerk,
there are children having babies
making it impossible to go to work.

The residents are panicked
the cops are, "off the hook"...
and every body's "suspect"
you tell me who's the bigger crook ?

Scandalism's up in rate
there seems to be a lack of, "hope"...
most are paranoid from reality
the rest are because of dope !

Two of Twilight's eldest boys
were gang affiliated men,
they both started really young
and now, they're both in the state pen !

Businesses are failing
churches can't do as much,
and with no transportation
cell phones keep families in touch.

I'm just a quiet observer
but, the hood ain't nothing right...
and after witnessing all their woes
they make my problems seem quite, "trite"!

A really good write & a great thing to put forth for the awarene

Hah, this caught me fully & I couldn't put it down. I loved the opening lines of personal observation & the truth as you see it, & I loved the balance you pulled between the weightiness of tragedy that lives seem spilled into & the buoyancy of the jest that is hinted in the lines, laughing at ourselves as a society. We are some steps behind the "American ways", but I see it spreading here (I am nestled in my little town of artists & healers, but cannot put my head in sand around such difficulty). A really good write & a great thing to put forth for the awareness of any who care. I thank you for this reflection. Cheers Anni~ "When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace". H.H. the Dalai Lama

Thank-you, Anni....

...for the kind generousity in your words. There IS a lot to observe ! Happily, I didn't offend anyone with the scribing of my observations. Thanks, again. "Write on"! sincerely, #{:-{)}8==== docmaverick.

Your descriptions fit to a "T"...

the life that goes on in most "poor" neighborhoods...yet...when things go wrong...these are the people that reach out to help each other...there is a bond that is not seen, yet often felt in the neighborhood, just as I see it...awesome write of the truth... antoinette Mari
