Osmosis

Here we connect
and the morning sparkles

Dark river boy on a slow ravine journey

Spritely waterfall nymph with cascading hair
All of us get washed in your gorgeous spontaneity

Deep water ocean boy, steady tide and swell

In the mother current
pull them all together
And the father falls from still waters
Slow motion
and then quick flow mercury

We come together
mingling, tumbling waters through the shallows
and drifting softly deep and quiet all along the ocean floor
Here we are
five instead of two or three
completion in these bodies of water
all of which soak into me
Osmosis to the soul

Even the dogs cavort
The fluffy black and the fluffy white
chase eachother in tight circle
a ball of Yin and yang
spiralling happy on the mat

It’s 3 am and summer thunderstorm pulls cool into my room
and strange promise of change
I want to slip out to the garden to be watered like my maples
My birches
My hair fluttering in gentle breeze like the dancing leaves in the summer cool
Goosebumps bud on naked flesh
And lungs suck greedily at the freshness of sweet cool air past midnight

You are not here
I’ve missed you for days
After our brief family joy
Children in the kitchen
- in the bathroom
- coming home from school
decked in blue and gold and grey
Happy
Content

I am the wild Selkie tonight in your absence
craving the smooth of your skin against my own
My seal skin longs to be immersed
as the thunder calls my wilderness heart
Surely I would float into beloved clouds if I should step out through the door
So I resist
And tug these words free from the velvet black surrounding me
I drink deeply instead, and pull you into me as water, clear
Tomorrow I will shower in you
Pouring you across my warmth
Loving all of you
You soothe me
You comfort me
You bring me into you
I am in you, of you, all about you
You
And your children
And mine
In the knitting of the moment
The slow weaving of sunrise, sunset, dawn, dusk, noon and midnight
I miss my word weavers
But you gift me with so much more
I bless the rain and you
As you kiss my beautiful life
This beautiful life I might have offered up
But now you rain on me in steady rhythm constancy
And it is me that is blessed

"osmosis" is a sense I often get about the way things meld into

Hi Ziggy, lovely to see your pixie face here (love the new pic), there is a qicksilverness about your features, cerebral & filligree considerations, as your comments hold up, they are a pleasure to discover here. Yes, I am sure I was some form of acquatic being in a past life (chuckle), all things liquid pull me so, & "osmosis" is a sense I often get about the way things meld into me... love, information, friendship, understanding... & how I love to be immersed or showered. I am sure you are right with your good eye, it was, after all, past 3am when I wrote & posted this, there are bound to be errors... As for Selkie (you may know better being closer than I to the origin of the legend, I have seen it spelled a number of ways, including silkie, silky, selkie & selky, I thnk it depends on the song or story you connect with... but, yes, I think Selkie looks best so I shall repair these things shortly. Thank you for being the first to comment, I don't know why you should hate being that, it is a pleasure & I am grateful & pleased it is you. and silver your nights soliloquies with stars.

It is we who are blessed and blessed with the breezes of cool air from the darkness of night, dreamed from the seas of the mind's mesmerised state of flux, wistfully listening to the quiet, whispering ballads of love to the vapours of dampness that steal your heart into another's, far away, ah me, ah me, you woken lovely pen wielder and spinner of night webs cast here to catch us, your willing fish, and silver your nights soliloquies with stars. Dear sweet Anni from Anushka I can hear your songs in the morning mists here as they rise from the river over there in the view and finally turn from pink to blue before they depart and let the sun bathe its colour giving light over the green fir treed hills and light up the larch, the one larch in its golden dress of Autumn, defying the winds of yesterday, she stands there proud of her fine needles, fully clothed after the nights rest, the little shock of birds flying out of her towards the lake. 'Tis you in the morning having created a poem of such beauty, Anni.

You "osmose" across the membranes of my heart dear one!

Oh lordy, what an incredibly beautiful comment dearest Annushka... I am almost speachless (wordless)... there is so much beauty here I believe it well outshines my original post, & I am humbled to have inspired you to write such wondrous response... how lucky I am to know such delicious writers & be spoiled & blessed (indeed) by the outpouring of such inspiration... Ann, do you know how lovely this is? You see, I am lost in it. The lovely rolling flow of your words that take me into warm & comfortable spaces of a writer's precious islands. A lovely journey you take me on with this beautiful vessel of conceptual word weaving... & so encouraging, thank you. You "osmose" across the membranes of my heart dear one! The depth of your love is a beacon

I really like the insight to your contented life captured perhaps by my favourite line In the knitting of the moment The slow weaving of sunrise, sunset, dawn, dusk, noon and midnight It is two poems within one rather apt as the two within one seems perfect here. thanks for sharing such joy with us. Oh what a lovely thing that you can see this. You have a great sense of clarity & insight Seabhac, you have read here the hidden elements & found the heart of it. & the duality (as you say 2 poems) that I feel, for I have been for many years both extremely social, but fiercely solitary in my private time... (I wonder if most of us are as writers?), & the wee hours often free me to the elemental bliss of nature's inspiration. It is in fact a poem of final surrender to the wonderful pleasure that is to come after deciding to meld 2 families together (after a short period of wobbliness, weighing all the challenges). The reflections of a sleepless night of solitary reflection coming to meet the benefits for all involved, yes definitely content in the opening of such lovely possibilities... guess I waited a long time for that kind of fulfilment. Thank you for commenting here, I feel honoured & so pleased at this kind of gift (it is really, we give quite generously here... sadly I am less able to spend time, but I hope to contribute all the same wherever & as much as I can.) My best to you Sea (am interested to know the origin of your name?) Dear Anni,

It is so lovely to see you listing your poetry. This poem has a very nice flow. It is like an enchanted place but without being moved to a land of leprechauns. You do inculcate themes which are a bit repetitive. But I shall forego deconstruction and stay with the comfort of having the grace of your words here again. Brian

it's good to have a gentle boot about it

Heh, very kind of you to be soft on me, always nice to see you here too... Yes,repetitive, I think I can see that... I'm off my game, as they say, very little energy for writing of late, sticking to my comfort areas... water, love, good people. Ah, it's good to have a gentle boot about it, I shall make a bit more effort to skootch over to the less comfy themes, or at least less familiar ones, ta for the reminder. Hope all is well for you & Olya as your winter settles in there (& our summer here) I often think of you (I am less able to spend time on the computer, but I will go in search of some work from you, & look forward to it). Flow of storytime wended with prose

I read poetry to escape the brutal emotional crashs the empty wasteland of silence when all were chasing their dragons I stay away and read just like a child now Like an old man in a frightened ghost quick with tempered gaurd stopping short on my chain amazed at those that come so close and yes there are those with the gift of bliss but they know oh how they know when I was not chasing windmills or stepping on shadows I would find in certian activities a lull that stalled the rush and rain would do this at night I still marvel that at times I can feel in my body my skin I can see the beauty in the rain on you the awe of experience the communion with the cycle of element the power that gorgeous hair you have calmed me and though i will twitch and whine in sleep I will be chasing more then rabbits happy in the style

Like an old man in a frightened ghost

Like an old man in a frightened ghost quick with tempered gaurd stopping short on my chain amazed at those that come so close Your writing is such a gift Steven, I love your comments, your rambles & meanderings, you are such an artist... your works need no frames to be extraordinary, you shape your words so uniquely no matter what you are going through. But there are things you & I know, I think, like how the rain, or some wild storm is sometimes the reflection of things inside that cannot be expressed, I don't know about you, but I need that wild sometimes... I am a mother, I can't BE that wild thing any more, as once I might have (just quietly), long rides on my motorbike or midnight walks in the bush alone... even cemetery strolls. Sometimes solitude is a critical healer, when the comfort of another isn't what we crave, but the wild. Those places where no-one can know us. Glad to have soothed you at least. Take care eh Cheers Anni~ "When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace". It is a beautiful song, that connection..

That's beautiful Robert, I don't know, I've wanted that all my life & I've finally found that harmony, just as you describe. Seems to me lots of people don't really want that... are not happy or able to pull that from their own heart as you point out, & I do think that's the thing. It is a beautiful song, that connection.. an ever changing symphony really (sounds a bit cliche, but you know what I mean). I'm glad you could read that here though, it is what I was expressing. it is wonderful that you enjoyed this... you who write such wond

Hi Barry, you write such warm encouraging comments here but I admit to being shocked when you suggested this is my best in your opinion, I feel I have really lost heart for writing in the last 5 months or so, partly because of health & energy & partly for lack of time, there is so much going on in my life I barely have time to think... not good of course, it shall be addressed... I guess I just feel it's my down time at Neo... Still, it is wonderful that you enjoyed this... you who write such wondrous works of subtlety & sensitivity, depth & lucidity. As for gushing, (without wanting to open up old Neo contentiousness) I have never denied being a gusher, it is just one way to be, one part of me, in a way I feel like I should wear it proudly since it seems to be often met with great disdain, & I don't believe it deserves to be as long as there is a balance of sorts... the world cannot be made worse off by gushing, as long as it is truly from the heart & humble to boot, this is my aim. Hah... what is it to be a pop? I can guess contextually, but it made me chuckle. You take care & thank you... am looking forward to seeing what you've been up to. Gerry, great to find you here, how go your travels?

Ah wonderful Gerry, great to find you here, how go your travels?.. oooh I do hope this means you have posted something... I will go searching as soon as possible. Mmm Selkies, Sirens, Mermaids, the sea dwelling women (usually), often torn between the longing for earthly comfort & the depth & solitude of the ocean... I guess that's how I will always feel (as a diver no longer able to dive...sigh), but Brian is right, I need to come back to it less often as a theme in my poetry. That Rumi work is probably my most favourite, I have it as "beyond the concept of right & wrong there is a field... " I remember that sense of utter awe when I first read that, that someone should write with such utter wisdom & truth way back in the 13th century. Made me fall in love with the world all over again. Osmosis...

Soaking up the joy, and the pleasures through the words echoing in my brain. Black and white, and grey and gold and blue. The colors melding into a ying and yang. Feeling the rain and storm washing over all. This is what it felt like to me, when Wendy and I chose to bring our families together. Good luck to you and your otters, I know you will be happy that you are undertaking this big task. There will be some rough road, I'm sure, but it will be worth it! Love ya, Gee

here's a chuckle, I had my fist mini "Thanks giving" with the ot

Hey you New York toughie with the cheeky grin, thanks for dropping in. How gorgeous to hear that from you (about you & Wendy) you made it work & haven't looked back, it soothes my (very mild) occasional wobbles... It's been just my boy & I very happily for many years & a few pretty bad false starts during that time so I guess it's understandable. My otter is an extraordinary & loving man & it seems like an impossible happy ending for both of us. The kids have been getting on Soooooo well & that is a joy, they are all great kids, so different from each other but they have tons of fun together, think my lad is liking having a little sister who seems to idolize him, he's so great with her. I guess it's clear in this write that I still love my space & solitude, who knows how it will be with no real time alone, but it's pretty smooth for the most part & I'd rather share a great love than have none & enjoy my space. Yah, I think the rough road is now, so much to do & little time, & some adjusting for the kids, but I think it'll settle. I hope you are well my friend & that life is smooth over there in your winter (heh, here's a chuckle, I had my fist mini "Thanks giving" with the otters, I thought of you.) Mini Thanksgiving...

So how do you like Thanksgiving? Did you have turkey? I'm guessing that you will be introduced to a few new holidays, what with your American otters. Of course you can reciprocate with teaching them about Aussie holidays. I'm thinking that it is too bad that you don't have at least a little snow. A couple of inches for Christmas would be nice. I'm hoping that we get some for Christmas, but not too far ahead,[if it is...it is usually all dirty and grey and something you wish would go away] but a day or two before, and it is so pretty! Most people around here put up outside decorations right after Thanksgiving and leave them up until things thaw out in the Spring. When it snows and the lights get buried under it, it spreads the colors in smears of red, blue and all colored lights against the contrast of clean white snow. I know that it seems like a huge undertaking to meld your families, but you have a good start,[being that the kids get along so well]and before you know it, it will seem like it always was this way. I'm sure that when things settle down, you will find time to write more, and maybe even have a "quiet time schedule" a couple of hours, two or three times a week. Well, I've rambled on enough. Hugs and kisses all 'round from me and Wendy, ~ Gee

Hello beautiful Anna, actually there are definitely elements of "gradual, often unconscious process of assimilation or absorption" in the loveliest way, perhaps it's Oxytocin or Phenylethylamine (the chemicals & hormones of love & bonding (& lust I must confess) but along with these things that bind us that I am conscious of are much more subtle & seemingly magical that draw us together. Thank you for your blessing, I do feel blessed, I know how crappy life can be, & make effort to really be present to the goodness.. yours is a lovely sprinkling of such (& somehow I often feel you have been through enough tricky conditions to know what I mean Cheers xx Anni~ "When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace". One day we wake,

if we're lucky enough, and realize that all we are, we see, has come to be through all that we have experienced. The suffering, the happiness, the winning, the loss, the pain and the joy; they are all the same coin, the same life, the same we, shared; though each, individual brilliant points of light. We learn that when we reach out, we teach within. All of this exists because it must. Even though so absorbed, we remain individual within. It is not an obligation, but the romance of loving life. I had no idea this had made it to spotlight, I doubt that is currant, thank you for telling me, I'd have missed such an aberration (these days... it's funny isn't it... I remember when I first arrived here, I couldn't understand why you were not constantly in spotlight, then was informed that there have been times when you were, as there were for me too. It matters less for me than these beautiful messages from true & talented hearts, writers of skill & insight that leave words for me... Like yours Steven, I always love to read them & hear your snapshots of your life - I love the way you do that. I also revisited Plath recently, unfortunately I have so much going on at the moment & the writing I chose lengthy & requiring immersion (I long for the space for that of late), I must come back to it in the New Year I think & hope to make some more focused time. My dear Anni I have missed you these past few weeks and here I am to find this gem of a write posted here! Now what have I missed, silly me, in my absense? A frolicking seahorse in full blown sensual shimmy... you know with dogs in symetrical white and black mixed with you is a sure fire Kelpie... the australian sheep dog and legendary scottish water horse! What a combination! There are so many brilliant descriptives here with touch of passion and longing mixed with good feeling and rememberance. Your wish, dear Dale, is a delightful one, I love it & shall em

Ah dear, lovely Dale, you are always so very generous & know how to reach my heart & cheer it every time... Yes of course I must have been some mythical creature in some other life, & to some extent in this some years ago, but since I am more forest bound for the past many years (as opposed to all the sea nymphs & sirens), I can still play at Dryad rather than Naiad or undine. Heh the puppies are ring in's (like most creatures in Australia we arrived here (mine is a black Lhasa Apso (Tibetan temple dog) & theirs is a white Maltese, but they are both real dags (unsophisticated, even silly, but fun). I did have a dingo years ago, she was incredible & wonderful, & kelpies are so lovely. Oh & Scottish water horses - what a lovely thing to ponder... I have such a pull to visit the Hebridean Islands where such things as Selkies lurk. Your wish, dear Dale, is a delightful one, I love it & shall embrace it, I always wrote every day & in the last few months have been prohibited from doing so... but it is like breathing to some extent, I have a need for it & you have gifted me such a good reminder. Anni, Anni, Anni, I had a sneaky read of just a few of your recent posts the other day, a day of consumption and not commenting but this is the one that drew me back, I could read and reread it, it brings me such smiles :) Of course I love the water references but more so because they reflect so much joy and don't hint at the sadness :) dear girl sometimes I'm sure that you write me, almost better than I could there are parts of this poem that resonate with me so deeply, 'I miss my word weavers, but you gift me with so much more', 'I am in you, of you, all about you', yep! :) I'm definitely feeling this one honey :) and remain utterly happy for you dear, dear woman :) Oh how I have missed reading your poetry and witnessing the visions you paint. If I could only fold the world my darling, i would hug you so closely but I will be content with sending my love into your dear skies and wrapping you in goodness :) Love ya, Beki xxx
