Prayer for the Dope Fiends
We are true to ourselves
and thus the stars make us happy,
the pine needles on dead trees make us happy,
the frozen water at the edge of the lake makes us happy,
the existence of an electric toothbrush makes us happy...
We have the courage to be content
in the statement a building makes -
all its small lives arranged in boxes
for the camera's eye...
We have seen the devil rise
from the flames of an oil can,
we have seen the beauty in water;
things the scientists tell us
of the properties of snow.
We are collaborators
and informers,
we know only one logic and one god,
we die for the unease in your heart
and for each of you
we bury an ounze of pain.
and thus the stars make us happy,
the pine needles on dead trees make us happy,
the frozen water at the edge of the lake makes us happy,
the existence of an electric toothbrush makes us happy...
We have the courage to be content
in the statement a building makes -
all its small lives arranged in boxes
for the camera's eye...
We have seen the devil rise
from the flames of an oil can,
we have seen the beauty in water;
things the scientists tell us
of the properties of snow.
We are collaborators
and informers,
we know only one logic and one god,
we die for the unease in your heart
and for each of you
we bury an ounze of pain.
