For want of listening
I pour my heart through the melody
Feeding sweetness tempered with passion
Attempting to balance these with sincerity
And some affection
I match the harmony,
the counterplay of keyboard dancing fingers
And soften more, to highlight the emotion
My art desires illusive silk perfection
This is my offering
And if I pull a tear or set smile on someone here
I might be sated, to touch a deeper heart
The gift reciprocated merely in the knowledge
I sing from life and loss
I sing from gratitude
I draw the willingness and hope from where I’ve been
These are not techniques that one might learn in college
I teach these children
To stand without the judgement
To come to look for where their voices bring them joy
Integrity through voice and heart and soul
To reach the few who really hear
For want of listening
Who know the pleasure of the process
And those moments where life offers up the whole
Feeding sweetness tempered with passion
Attempting to balance these with sincerity
And some affection
I match the harmony,
the counterplay of keyboard dancing fingers
And soften more, to highlight the emotion
My art desires illusive silk perfection
This is my offering
And if I pull a tear or set smile on someone here
I might be sated, to touch a deeper heart
The gift reciprocated merely in the knowledge
I sing from life and loss
I sing from gratitude
I draw the willingness and hope from where I’ve been
These are not techniques that one might learn in college
I teach these children
To stand without the judgement
To come to look for where their voices bring them joy
Integrity through voice and heart and soul
To reach the few who really hear
For want of listening
Who know the pleasure of the process
And those moments where life offers up the whole
