Contrast Dye

Contrast Dye Mary Magdalene, you were wronged. Your brown body And its lurching syntax were mistranslated; Your kiss has been misquoted. They remember you as a whore. They say your body arched on the bed, They say you breathed like your heart Was trying to give birth to its constant kick, They say your eyes lifted their hems so high They flashed white and naked. They say your damp hair curled like lit wicks. ..............They say you wanted Jesus. This is untrue. You were the woman possessed by seven demons. Your body arched on the bed, You breathed like your heart Was trying to give birth to its constant kick, Your eyes lifted their hems so high They flashed white and naked. Your damp hair curled like lit wicks. You wanted Jesus. ~ Can you blame them for this mistake? Your scream, When the seven demons were wrenched from you, Sounded so much like the scream Of a lost woman on a rocking bed, Who cried when she came Like a man had ripped the clothes off her voice.

Interpretation...

Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is evil, and jealousy! Whenever one is tempted to stray from the norms of the day and culture, they must remember that they are subject to the predjudice of said norms and culture. There are those that are not enlightened enough to accept that there is someone that knows a thing, just because they have never been cast in that role before. Experience and mastery through long practice is not always the path. Sometimes flashes of insight is all that is needed. Be it man, woman, child or who. ~ Geezer

Magdalene

Erotic and disturbing at the same time, not quite up on the bible. But you make her sound fascinating, a real person..

We have the same

We have the same interpretations of our Catholic backgrounds. Another beauty, dear Shells Someday I'll have to find all mine & we'll have to compare notes. Doesn't every woman have a bit of Mary Magdalene in her? Yes, we do. Wanting Jesus as a man who would save us from at least one demon--being unloved. Dear Diatom

This one is interesting because you seem to use the same wording for both the first and second stanzas. It teaches you the o so important lesson to read between the lines, the truth is a double edged sword. Your poetry is becoming so sophisticated. I wish I had your skill. I wonder if you've studied the Gnostic Gospels, in particular the "Gospel of Mary Magdalene". It makes me wonder who I shoould be reading. You leave the rest of us in the dust. Respect Dalton.

Not bible bashed...

This is simply brilliant Diatom, although you seemingly use the same words in sequence in your two paragraphs, you seem to flip the coin and produce the other side (be it heads or tails!) without actually saying anything different. Quite engenius if you ask me! Superb twist and play with words and a rather good theme and the descriptives are superb indeed. Keep up this great writing! Dale :)

This is fucking beautiful…

This is fucking beautiful... Wow. Incredible. I get a very feminist impression from your writing or at least a voice that is proud to explore what it is to be female. Magdalene was definitely a mystery and was overshadowed by the bible. You may be interested in the book The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. Its about women in bibilical times, a fictional account of Dinah, Jacobs daughter. Back then when women were menustrating they were to spend time away from men inside of what was called the red tent, other women would join them if they were also on their cycle. Its a huge insight on women in biblical times. In some way they were not given a voice but in other ways they had a very strong subculture and a great understanding of sisterhood and emotion. It was a very good book that I think you would like.

OOOh aaah!

Thank you so much I am going to pick that book up tomorrow it sounds fantuckingfastic I remember knowing something about the lady that had an issue of blood for 12 years (menstruating) and she had such faith that she thought, 'if only I could touch His hem I KNOW I will be healed' and I remember they were not allowed to go into public when on a period and for this woman to risk getting stoned what bravery she had, women like this inspire me and what is not to like about the Mary Magdalene of our ages!?

Returning to re-read this,

Returning to re-read this, Shells, I am once again in awe. I think you should rewrite the entire bible. And perhaps you will through poetry. You may be the bloodline of Jesus. Huge hugs and a deep bow. ~A
