i admit it

i admit it i know nothing about humans
much less myself
have we become oblivious
to our neighbors
on our little patch of 30x120
is the tv blaring,
the arguments so loud,
our lives so hurried
that our neighbor
buries 10 bodies
and we never heard even one
cry?

i'm sick to death of society,
i know not how serial killers
are formed
i know not what went wrong
in their synapsing mind,
some will call them
evil, some will say crazy
as a fox

i just know that if we don't know
what is happening next door,
it's way too close for comfort.

In total agreement...

This is why we have more crime and less punishment. We are blind to what is going on in our own backyards. We do not care what is going on, if it does not affect us directly. Well guess what? The next time might be your turn! Then as you are being beaten, and robbed, and the person at the window says;It doesn't concern me. Maybe I should call the police, but if they find out it was me that got them caught, they will come after me next. You will regret the decision not to interfere. ~ Gee

By the time we go to

By the time we go to *punishment* it's too late for many. However there are prison systems that actually have a high rate of *success* ie. low recidivism. Can't find the original article I was looking for. http://prisonnewsblog.com/2009/01/prison-reforms-yield-high-success-rates-low-recidivism-rates/ However, ot those men who have been imprisoned for violent sex crimes, I know of at least 3 who have gone on to do even more heinous crimes. I'd say this is the case of hard-wiring. And the best is to make sure they are not released. Question is a foolproof determination process for who fits into that "return to society at your own peril". Thanks for reading Gee, how ya feeling? ~A "...when it agrees with reason and it will benefit one and all, then accept it and live by it." ~ Buddha

A good question...

have we spared the rod and spoiled the child too much? very difficult to answer that. we push people hard to over-achieve, chastise if they can't mega multi-task, focus all our attention on the new things, and youth as if everyone should try to be that regardless of the cost.... which is mostly ignoring experience because it's old-hat, and then shit-can people who are experienced because they know too much and might challenge young business major trained managers. hmmmmm........and will likely cost too much in the medical department. and strangely... if you believe what you hear, the majority of the majority's attention is obsessed with porn. which we apparently value highly and pay whatever it costs to have. unless you can't afford it.... which means it's going to be gotten anyhow. and that's not even really discussing the reptilian cold-bloodedness of business survival in yet. or has it always been this way, but now we have so many more ways to hear about it. or is it simply that good doesn't sell. and it isn't hip. so being bad is good. the badder, the gooder, as far as bragging rights go. hmmmmmm........ if order is lost and all we know is chaos... does chaos become the order of the day? i... don't know what my neighbors are into because i'm not God. nor will i be. nor is anyone else. George Orwell once wrote about it.

Well Written

I was impressed and taken aback at the same time. As far as neighbors go,we watch over each others houses when away etc but sometimes that is not enough. The house across the road was yelling at our dog to shut up, he was going crazy, we were not home. While they were yelling, their well alarmed house was being robbed down stairs, and the dear old lady next door was asleep in her bed and robbed of her handbag from the wardrobe. Brazen, but I agree with you and all above comments. We do as a rule have a quiet street but around the corner, always trouble, odd. Well done dear girl. Love Lyz. XX

we need a complete new philosophy

We "stand and stare"...and find joy where others have to strive to find it. and:-"Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us." Rilke. Anna oh Anna I think we haven't ever even changed, we are weighed down by the creeds and fancies established by our forefathers, we follow ideas that we shouldn't even think of, we are influenced by the 'excitement' of violence, on TV by seeing or past by continuing to study the 'old school truths' the old school ideas of competition at all costs, and we breed more of this type of person all the time, we have no power to stop human beings being human beings, they always have been and it looks as if they always will be. More's the pity, as those who find the 'peace of the hills' can write reams of poetry and prose which never gets read by that minority of violent minded people, they are born and bred in the traditions that give them licence to kill; we can shout, we can object as much as we like but we will never learn by our mistakes. we will always be human beings with human weaknesses and passions that lead us to dangerous deeds. Sadly Anna, I am not optimistic about your worries being changed , its up to each one of us to find the heaven we seek in our own individual manner as anything mass produced can lead to our destruction, as is he case with mass religious fervour that even leads them to commit suicide for no good reason. We are alone and will always be alone, each puzzling his own thought processes and finding the best way to conduct their lives; good luck to all mankind I say, we need a complete new philosophy, beginning in education of the young, teaching them the values we find to be the most sensible to create an enjoyable way of life on this most wonderful planet earth. It bothers me a lot, even pains me, every day one sees or hears of things that don't need to take place, if only, if only, if ... Big sigh, sadly no laughing here. Ann of Norway to my dear sister Anna.
