Same Star

brush the night with mind
and you will find
that all of humankind
across this world that's
your's and mine
touch their fingertips upon
the same dark sky
as you and I

kiss the evening breathless
with the moon so restless
from night sky so endless
and you'll soon discover that
your desire slips across the lips
of other souls that sip
eager of the silver bliss
from the self-same cresent chalice

reach to touch the points of light
scattered diamond bright
across the wings of your life's flight
and in that dark of darks you'll see
that all the kinds that we can be
the fragile joys we share
the constant limits that we dare
all the differences we are
are nothing but
the same bright star

Jim, I love the sentiment

Jim, I love the sentiment here (no suprise lol) I like the rhythm, it's almost relentless, rattles along like a train, if you know what I mean? ;) which suprised me as it contrasts the theme of the poem, the gentle etherial (shit is that the right word? hope so but don't have time to locate dictionary and check lol) quality. Not sure why but something in me would like the occasional capital letter lol and of course another 'f' in differences (last stanza) :) but enjoyed the read and the space you create, as I so often do your work. Love to you Jim from the bright side ;) xxx

Hi Beki

Glad you enjoyed it. It is relentless and hard compared to the sentiment, because I wrote it while listening to The Tangent, a most excellent Northern English melodic prog rock band that's one of my favorites. Hence the pace and sharp edge, I think. The word is ethereal (not "shit", heehee) and yah I added that 'f'. Capital letters I won't do....cuz everyone'll come down on me like a ton of bricks for being an "old fashioned" poet! LOL Glad you enjoyed it Beki, and thanks Respectfully Jim "Laws and rules don't kill freedom: narrow-minded intolerance does" : Race
